교독문 Responsive Reading 이사야 Isaiah 58
"Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice
and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and
break every yoke?
Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter
when you see the naked, to clothe him, and not to turn away
from your own flesh and blood?
Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear;
then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of
the LORD will be your rear guard.
Then you will call, and the LORD will answer
you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.
"If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk,
and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy
the needs of the oppressed,
then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.
The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.
Suffering and God's Purpose
The LORD is compassionate and gracious, Slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness. He will not always strive with us, Nor will He keep His anger forever. He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, So great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him. As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us. Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him. For He Himself knows our frame; He is mindful that we are but dust. Psalm 103:8-14
People are unwell. My body aches, and my heart aches just as much. Relationships between people are also very fragile, making them easily breakable, and it causes both physical and emotional pain. Let me contemplate why this is so. I believe it may be my fault, or perhaps it is due to the consequence of sin. However, instead of dwelling on that, why did they make it so painful from the beginning? It would be more appropriate to consider... Or perhaps the Lord intended to heal us again, to know grace? If that's the case, it's like initially exposing your child to their father's love by allowing them to experience some hardship, but regular parents don't usually do that.
Throughout all ages, wise individuals have stated that life is about confession. Many religions have also emphasized meditation and practice to alleviate suffering in life. Yet, life still involves enduring some form of pain. Is it true that the Christian gospel takes the world's pain for granted in exchange for the afterlife? Are we meant to endure physical or emotional pain while thinking about the cross of the Lord? It might be the gospel of the afterlife, but it cannot be the gospel of the present world.
Firstly, from a medical standpoint, the original design of our bodies was not meant to be sick. Pain serves as a warning sign in any form, telling us to take care and not exacerbate the issue. Therefore, if we were to ask God, "Why did you make people prone to sickness?" the answer should be that God originally created people without illness.
However, one could argue that it was God's intention to create bodies that could experience pain. This would be like the human vulnerability that comes with having a sinful nature. This relates to the fact that when God created humans, He formed them from soil but also in the image of God. Just as nobody chooses to be sick, sin is also an unwanted state. Yet, if we avoid getting sick and maintain a healthy lifestyle, things remain normal. Once something becomes abnormal, it causes pain wherever the issue arises, making us aware of the abnormality.
In other words, our understanding encompasses both normal and abnormal states. We recognize the difference between these two conditions. Initially, everything was normal for Adam and Eve in Eden. The concept of "pain" was introduced only after they ate from the tree that granted knowledge of good and evil, leading them to realize their nakedness. Even though this choice should have wiped out all normalcy, we see that the gospel of normalcy continued to exist in the world afterward. The path is one of covenant, restraint, and restoration. It is described as the path of the tree of life in Eden.
What did God want to know? This question is connected to the purpose of creating this world and why it was made this way. The beginning, as we know it, is when time, space, and things were first brought into existence. God existed even before these things were present. It does not discuss the past or the future of time; it is transcendence. God is complete in being Himself, a trinity, and He gave birth to us, who are full and complete. That is who we truly are.
In other words, Adam and Eve were born on the last day of the world's creation, and all lives that followed were born in their respective times, but in the eyes of God, they exist beyond the world's creation. However, this being must have one condition, and that is freedom. Without freedom, it can never be fulfilled. Nevertheless, freedom also includes the possibility of eventually turning away from God and becoming alone, but the independence of the creature, not the Creator, is inevitably limited. These are spirits trapped in jade.
Life exists in a visible and tangible world. Until now, we have discussed the invisible world. People strive to cure their physical and mental illnesses and to maintain good health. This requires believing in the integrity of the original state as God created it and the idea that life functions within itself. However, divine wisdom doesn't end there; I believe it is the intention of the Creator God, who designed life in this way, for us to discover our true selves by becoming one with the Lord and finding fulfillment through that life.
