Yesterday, I was embarrassed because the checked number of my diary was out of ordinary high. The higher checked number was not the fundamental reason that I was embarrassed. The real reason is I wrote it roughly. It started from serious concerns about our society and I made a structure of my writing in my mind but, as it goes by, I felt bored with explaining what my thoughts are so that I quit it all of a sudden. It's not that I've been writing my diary to show people but the idea that there can be a person who reads my diary helps me writing with sincerity.
Anyway, today I want to let you know a phrase about buying something. The subject that I've been talking about with my teacher is shopping lately. So I saw a sentence when I prepared today's class which is "the tickets we had to get was at the last minute so we paid through the nose for them" Have you seen the phrase of 'pay through the nose' before? I haven't seen it before so I was searching the meaning of it. And you know what? It contains a interesting story of its origin. Ah! first of all, I'm gonna say the meaning of this phrase. the meaning of it is paying much more for something than it's real worth. And then the origin of it is coming from very long time ago when Viking invaded England, they called ridiculously high taxes and if they can't pay it and then cut their noses. Isn't it shocking? For me, by knowing this story, i think i can use this expression when I meet simular situations. What do you say practice this sentence and use it?
