(Multilingual Abstract)
The purpose of this study is to develop a dialectical behavior therapy program to improve attention and emotional dysregulation for college students with ADHD, and to analyze its effects after the program’s implementation. To this end, this study conducted literature analysis and need surveys related to the characteristics of adult ADHD, the difficulty of meeting diagnostic criteria, and college students with adult ADHD propensity to identify the difficulties with college students with adult ADHD propensity. Based on this, a dialectical behavior therapy program model was developed, and a 10-session (2 hours and 30 minutes per session) program was also developed to improve attention and emotional control difficulties in college students with adult ADHD propensity. In order to analyze the effect of the developed program, both quantitative and qualitative data were collected following the implementation of the program for college students with adult ADHD propensity, and the program effect was analyzed.
This program consists of the three modules of lifestyle module, attention module, and emotional regulation module, and consists of each session with intensive training time for the three modules. Moreover, focusing on acceptance and change emphasized in dialectical behavior therapy, the program contents for attention and emotional regulation of college students with adult ADHD propensity were constructed using mindfulness techniques, emotional regulation techniques, and pain tolerance techniques. However, in order to clarify the purpose of this study, interpersonal skills were not used in this study.
The subjects of this study were college students with adult ADHD propensity, and 12 people with homogeneity were finally selected and 6 people were randomly placed in the experimental group and the control group, respectively. 10 sessions of the dialectical behavior therapy program developed by this researcher were conducted for the experimental group, and no treatment was conducted for the control group. In order to compare the degree of change between the experimental and control groups, the degree of quantitative change and the continuation of the program effect was measured by using the measurements before the start of the program, after the end of the 10th session, and 5 weeks following the conclusion of the program. In order to explain the process of change in quantitative research specifically in detail, individual interviews were conducted at a follow-up meeting held five weeks after the conclusion of the program, and qualitative analysis results were derived through consensus qualitative analysis (CQR).
Data analysis showed significant changes in both attention and emotional regulation in college students with adult ADHD propensity in the experimental group. On the other hand, no significant change was observed in the control group; In addition, the results derived through consensus qualitative analysis (CQR) also found changes in life related to attention concentration and positive changes in emotional regulation. Qualitative analysis showed that they experienced positive changes not only in attention and emotional regulation, but also in other problematic behaviors.
While this study targeted the propensity group, it is significant in that it attempted various approaches to adult ADHD treatment and took a preventive approach to reduce the negative effects of adult ADHD propensity from a long-term perspective.
