- The stock market for special purpose acquisition company, or SPECs, has been stabilizing after price fluctuations in the first months of eased regulations, Korea Exchange said Tuesday.
SPEC refers to paper companies established to raise capital through listings to acquire or merge with other companies. Its enterprise value is not substantial when the company to be acquired is not known as SPEC’s stock prices are dependent on the EV of the companies it is taking over.
As of June 26, Korea Exchange has eased limits on the quotation price for IPOs by expanding the price range from 260 percent to 400 percent.
Following the eased regulations, the stock prices of some SPECs have soared, with some even surging over 300 percent of their initial offered prices.
However, this trend seems to give way as the shares prices are showing moderate flow, being traded near their initial offering prices.
For example, shares of KB NO. 26 SPEC and Hana Financial no 28 SEPC which made their stock debuts last Thursday have gained 5.5 percent and 1.3 percent respectively when compared to their IPO prices.
This is in contrast to how prices of Kyobo No. 14 SPAC and DB Finance Spec went up to 299 percent and 121.8 percent of their debut prices on July 6.
Anticipation for acquisition seems to have driven the spike in their stock prices, according to the KRX.
However, investors have gained deeper insights of the regulations, leading to the stabilization of the stock market.
“At the beginning, stock prices of some companies reached 300 percent of their IPO prices, reflecting investor’s anticipation but recently, as more investors are gaining deeper understandings and investing widely across diverse stocks, the stock prices have become stabilized,” an official from KRX explained.
“We will continue to monitor the impact of the eased regulations.” |
