That’s good to hear, I’m doing great as well! I’m pretty sure we’re going to have a wonderful class today.
Lately, we’ve been discussing about the kinds adverbs; adverb of time, adverb of place, and adverb of frequency. I think, we’re missing one more and that’s our lesson for today-adverb of degree.
Adverbs of degree tell us about the intensity or degree of an action, an adjective or another adverb.
Take note of the word intensity
Here are some examples of adverbs of degree:
Examples:
1.We are completely exhausted from the tour.
2.The milk is too hot for me to drink.
3.It is just too small for me!
Do they sound familiar? I know you know some adverbs of degree. Come on tell me! (Teacher shows encouraging expression and pretends to listen to the learners as they answer.)
Almost, nearly, quite, enough, hardly, scarcely, completely, very, extremely, never, rarely, seldom
If you have these on your mind, then you nailed it buddy!
But wait, there’s more to know about these kinds of adverbs.

Extremely, terribly, amazingly, wonderfully, insanely | Especially, particularly, uncommonly, unusually, remarkably, quite | Pretty, rather, fairly, not especially, not particularly |
Example: The lecture was terribly boring. | Example: The lecture was quite boring. | Example: The lecture was rather boring |
There is a difference between very intense feeling, strong feeling and fair feelings.
If you are expressing very strong or very intense feelings, the adverbs on column one shall be used. If expressing strong feelings, you can use the adverbs on column two. Lastly, if you are doubtful with your feelings then these adverbs in column three could be used.
Check out the sentence examples. The words are almost the same, right? But with the adverbs of degree included, each sentence means suggests different conditions.
