Subject: What does it take to go to war? Very Little!!
We must prevent a war at all cost..
Sir/Madam
For a brief period of attention span of most public’s view, there was a serious entertainment video of a Korean Frigate overturned within disputed Territorial Ocean far removed from our living room. Mr. President, Obama, started with a message of not rushing into conclusion and supporting salvage and rescue work at the accident site west of Seoul. It is rather shallow area for operation but deep enough for warships and submarine hunting operation. Our naval force with supposedly be USS Columbia, fast attack nuclear vessel was in S.Korea during this duration and completed an important task and returned home in Hawaii. Basic USS sub-data is L=110 m, Beam = 10 m (330’ long by 34 feet in width = diameter of a tube). There was a reported deployment of CDS-15 squadron with destroyers within the area of training exercise nearby Chun-Ahn Frigate accident. The primary activity of the CDS-15 force is forward-deployment of naval forces for ANTI-SUBMARINE WARFARE with cutting-edge technology. Surface Undersea Warfare Combat Systems equipped with newest Technology, development and testing, existing and proposed tactics, and REAL WORLD TASKING, of US 7th Fleet operations and prepare for forthcoming exercises and operations. The US Navy also quickly deployed EODMU-5 detachment (Emergency-Ordinance Disposal Unit) at the Chun-Ahn site.
Immediately following the incident, Mr. Obama was not agreeable to Korean counterpart, MyunBk Lee and mentioned of accident. MyunBk Lee mentioned of transparency and through investigation of the incident. Time passed without much effort to locate sunken vessel rather that was located by a fishing boat. Once the location was found, MyunBk Lee began disseminating information that was to be changed each time that educated citizens questioned validity of propaganda. But conclusion was made Nor. Korean regime caused the ship’s fate. Scenario of direct cause changed several times but dissemination would eventually conclude into a torpedo. Only thing Lee must do is to have its prime uncle, the US military to come along with this scenario. This would constitute corroboration by coercion. Once this happens, US effectively be corroborative partner supposedly without any knowledge in another country’s internal affairs and investigation. Supposedly have our hands clean from any misgivings, but what is a trap is to just look at the other way. Brother, I have a bridge to sell to you if that is as simple as that!
Investigating team included Koreans inclusive of Shin who was fired, and a Swedish. Lee MyunBk’s office did not allow dissent from supposedly independent investigative team. Thus, Shin was fired and is now being sued for doing a very good job and the Swede was heard to have left the country keeping his integrity, as much or less richer for their non-corroborating effort.
Now having given the above run-ups, let me begin matching thread mark with the hit and run vehicle tire along with a tear-jerking drama displayed by the scenario writers.
1 GENERAL OBSERVATION OF EVIDENCES PRESENTED
We all saw those surviving sailors in hospital gown on TV-briefing with prearranged act. If any of our soldiers in US who came out of Iraq with unbelievable wounds came out in public with such a sad face, we would never approve such display. That is also same for ROK soldier who follow order to the letter to harm’s way with their lives for just cause. What made them to be clowns? By the time, this News Briefing was shown, Bubble Jet explosion by Torpedo under a ship’s hull was widely advertised and was concluded without any proof. Still no sailors were hurt except post-traumatic psychological scar. Hell! Pardon my language. If a 550 Lbs bomb exploded the shock would have ruptured ear drums the least. Furthermore, the shock that would break a ship apart would have human flesh flying around in bits. Limbs would be lost for those in nearby vicinity. Concussion alone would have brain hemorrhage. See Figure 1, which is illustrative bubble jet effect on a ship with sharpeners and debris from. Those alone would cut into ship’s hull and numerous holes would remain as evidence, but did any of those sailors have wounds beyond sadness?
Now, see Figure 2 as non-evidence of bubble-jet damage on the ship. Heck! It seem to me, for 30 year old rust-bucket, it faired pretty well. It rather seem like marine shell-fish undergrowth that was scraped off as we all experienced with our boat for those water-folks. Or if it is not, automobile tag weldment or spot weld from roofing corrugated metal. This was blatantly shown as evidence without any bubble-jet damage picture or experimented picture that matched. Does this claim have any validity to a scientist? I would say not, neither any young American boys at Farm or those who work or those who took shop mechanics at high school. Just ask Popular Mechanics Editor of this, he will tell you with 100 % confidence what it may not be, he’ll bet his life on it.
Now, look closely to one of the nylon net used to de-populate ocean fishes. Solid Steel was supposedly have been fished out from the ocean. Have you heard of Solid steel swimming in the ocean? Wouldn’t they have to use a scraper to dredge up this? There still is a missing part that is larger than 20’ x 30’ x 20’ in the sea bottom somewhere. And yet, they found this apprx. 8’ long seel part. It is amazing how this floated up and yet self-cleaned of all adhesive bay-mud in that coastal area. Do you believe this? If you do, heck, I won’t even mention what I’d sell to you.
You know? Miracles do happen sometimes. See Figure 4, which is a part of the bubble jet torpedo from N. Korea. First it was said that the magic-mark in 1 and Korean word. That was the evidence of manufactured by N. Koreans. Then, amazingly, 550 Lbs high-explosive, (RDX (plastic explosive C-4 ), that Western Nations manufacture but not communists), would keep a lonely screw intact with its rust and all. Man~ North Koreans sure make screws well, they have my business for screws.
Long ago, there was a joke about Southern Baptist saying “do you believe?, Dunking too much under water”. For some reason, it was supposedly be fun to non- Southern Baptists. It got lost somewhere during translation. Are those enough evidences why those evidences and disseminated information were propaganda but not submersible in the US Court of Law? Oh, there is another item, what is called a TOD record, with surveillance capability of 24-7-365 days that conveniently has most critical portions cut off and not shown with unbelievable story. By the way, this is the country with most outside CCTV is used to monitor its citizen in crowd gathering. The Lee regime also changed time and deleted video tape from parliamentary record as evidence during court process.
2.. SHIP HULL DAMAGE
2..1 GENERAL VIEW
Now, enough of cynicism based on fact, but a bit more scientific match. Watch Figure 5, for approximate layout of the ship. There is a missing O-1 Deck with cut-out portion of hull and a dark circle of 30’ to 40’ diameter. This picture shows a cleaned version of damaged area but evidence still remains with a fishing net covered over it to censure. The yellow note states of a submerged mass pushing from portside and rear.
When a force is applied suddenly as in blast pressure arising from a depth of 9’ or deeper as was claimed, the pressure decreases rapidly with distance. The pressure becomes more uniform and forms a Iso-damage zone (simply put- same pressure zone), thus at some distance, pressure will not damage assets. What this means is the pressure will not fluctuate within that zone but uniformly applied. This will lead into material strength that keep any structure from failure. This means, within uniform pressure area, it is most likely pressure will be in one axial-direction on the plate and will fold up plates with edges tearing out.
3.. SPECIFIC EVIDENCES- UNDERSIDE OF HULL
The inward dent deformation show damage was from a contact by rubbing action than a sudden blast that would had complete separation from its members, especially at the point of blast (See Figure 6 and 7). Rolled up of keel portion with web missing would be from separated other bottom hull slowly tearing away web on weakest line and thus rolled over like in a milling factory. If it was a sudden blast roll, then it would have had same effect on nearby plates and stiffeners with much cleaner cut. Air and water will spread out on contact to a solid unless pressure is higher than material strength. But blast pressure damage is at 9’ distance would be a unison pressure rather than concentrated forces. This will be shown in Australian Experimental damaged illustration (See Figure 11).
Another example of solid mass moving from hull’s bottom is the clean shear of circle in Figure 8. While the ship’s stabilizer fins at both outsides remained intact this item directly on the bottom of the hull was sheared off. There also was evidence of bottom of fins were slightly damaged with weldment split by a pushing movement, but because it was not scraped off, it survived due to outside of travel. Again, there are evidences of dented hull on this figure 8. Report talks of twisted portside, but it is more like a crumpled metal. Twist is caused by torsion and this is not a torsional failure. One new damage item is vertical stiffener that also was rolled up in similar way, yellow note is self-explanatory. One suspicious point is that there are black marks on vertical ribbed diaphragm. It seem like rubberish paint rubbed into the surface. It does not seem like primer coat for painting.
4.. SPECIFIC EVIDENCE CROSS SECTIONAL DEFORMATION OF DAMAGED PORTION
In engineering failure, what is important is the force applied and how it behaves on the material. Here, on Figure 8 facing stern of the ship, the force of impact is applied from portside (left picture on bottom left) of the hull at first. This force is transferred upward by Rib-beam of the hull which is carried upward by vertical stiffeners. Thus, generally vertical movement of this empty volume section of the ship. Other remaining Bow and Stern sections have compartments and beams that strengthens the ship. This portion is the weakest area of the ship. Damage to the ship shows impact probably started as was shown. Observe the non-uniform bend of bottom hull with port side deformed upward by larger amount while starboard side moved upward with less amount but end portion dropped and bent down. If it would have been uniform pressure, both sides would have folded up with compartment sections being damaged with crushing-in movement. Notice two remaining fins.
5.. CLAIMED DAMAGE COMPARISON, AUSTRALIAN DESTROYER
There are numerous claims in internet of Naval accident with USS submarine during Joint Naval Exercise in the Internet. In order to examine this report of either explosive destruction of a ship or accidental collision during Naval Exercise under serious cat-and-mouse chase of Anti-Submarine exercise during Joint-Exercise with United States, actual bubble-jet torpedo damage was found from internet for comparison of claims. Mechanism of blast in structural behavior is written. A REMINDER, THE TEST WAS DONE UNDER PRECISE CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT AND STATIONARY SHIP THAT IS NOT MOVING. In combat situation which would not be a test and a very serious submarine exercise, ships would be moving at fast speed to evade torpedo and torpedo will not bulls-eye on weakest location of the ship. That is more-so the reason, the bubble-jet torpedo may not be a weapon of choice in actual Naval Battle.
Observation 1 is the direction of torpedo. Torpedo traveled below the ship and exploded below and at starboard of the ship. Reference axis are shown for extent of damage relative to ship geometry.
Observation 2, is the direction of blast. Blast pressure moved up at angle to vertical z-axis.
Observation 3, is the side hulls of the ship. Both sides of ship moved out and were torn off. Notice jagged edges. Notice starboard side hull folded neatly into and abutting into remaining side of the ship.
Observation 4, it is unclear due to yellow note shown. The mid-portion of compartments are caved in due to sever pressure.
Observation 5, Portside of hull deformed. It is pushed outside and deck-level turned slanted out.
Observation 6, Critical evidence of High Explosive Pressure applied. Starboard side cover (hull) blasted inward first and folded at 90 degrees. Due to pressure propagating upward, the cover flew upward like a flap. Continued expansion of pressure travel the flap twisted and folded again just as in tornado motion. However, because all applied forces are uniform and instantaneous and short duration, structural damage reflects general forced direction.
This failure mechanism is not same as Chun-Ahn Frigate failure mechanism. Chun-Ahn does not have any evidence of blast damage. It rather has damage due to slow moving un-known mass. Therefore, there is no known-correlation between this destruction with Chun-Ahn frigate.
6. GEOMETRIC EVIDENCE
Figure 12 shows Chun-Ahn rear view of damaged Bow section. It shows a undeniable circular crushed foot-print. The Circle is graphically estimated between 30 to 40 feet in diameter. It also show contrary to above observations. Important and the most serious evidence is the circular crushed in line. This circle is also verified on the side view of entire ship, see figure 13. Relative dimension from 7.2 m of upper section of a circle matches the arc, extension into Stern side, the range of diameter is between 30 to 40 feet. What is the dimension of USS Hawaii, or a general Attack Sub? Length is 377 feet, Beam is 34 feet Speed is 25 knots about 30 knots, Displacement is 7900 ton. There also was a case of USS attack sub aground nearby shoreline.
I will leave this report with you, the news media and others. You have the choice to do what is right and prevent current lunatic war mentality. It is all blown out-of proportion and that sly Lee has misrepresented to US. Our integrity is at a greater risk at this time. Even though two destruction pictures look similar and it may appear to a layman as attack by torpedo. Based on above observations and matches it undeniably is not an explosive attack. We have to choose our friends, ie, a right leader carefully who would not betray our confidence with a sweet talk of cover up. It seems at this time “with a friend like that, who needs enemy”?
