Have you ever climbed Mt. Jangsan,
a wave of silver grass?
Haeundae has the sea, but it also has a high mountain, Jangsan Mountain. The meaning of Jangsan is ‘mountain of silver grass’.
What is Jangsan proud of? It varies from person to person, but I would like to introduce it based on the author's recent hike to Mt. Jangsan.
First, the silver grass waves are spectacular.
Silver grass is most beautiful when seen in the middle of winter. This is because all the flowers have disappeared, but instead the tall silver grass sings the lyricism of winter alone.
Second, there is a view from the top of all directions.
You can see all of Busan, and on a clear day, you can even see Tsushima, 60km away. Jangsan Mountain is much better than Geumjeongsan Mountain and Hwangnyeongsan Mountain for viewing the entire Busan.
Third, the hiking courses are very diverse. For beginners, there is a trail at the foot of Jangsan Mountain, for adults, from Daecheon Park to the Sports Park, and for experts, there is a course to the summit or a rough rocky path. If you misstep on the rocky path course, you can get a ‘bloody souvenir’. If you make the trek, it will take at least 4 hours to reach Seongbulsa Temple in Jaesong-dong on the other side.
There is a constant flow of hikers to Jangsan Mountain throughout the year. There are families, lovers, and friends, but there are also people, like the philosopher Kant, who take a walk every morning at a set time.
There is one thing I would like to advise those who are attempting to reach the summit of Jangsan Mountain for the first time.
The problem is that there are no restrooms on the way to the top. I would like to inform women in particular that the restroom is located at the entrance of the sports park, and that they must go near the top. If you want to see the silver grass waves of Jangsan Mountain and the entire Busan area, please try climbing Jangsan Mountain.
