How do You Deal With Your Tongue, Neck and Back?
As I looked through the books on the practice, I found that Taoism, Confucianism, Buddhism, and many other practitioners all taught the same way of handling the tongue. All teach us to stick our tongue to the roof of the mouth, which is where the Conception Vessel and the Governing Vessel lead. Governing Vessel is explained by starting from the perineum (the middle part of the anus and genitals), passing through the tail of the spine, through the lower back and narrowing (the back of the chest), up the occlusion (the occident of the head), up to the white spine, the tip of the head, and back through the indang (between the eyebrows and the eyebrows) to the gums.
It is said that the Conception Vessel starts from the perineum, passes through the large intestine, small intestine, and stomach in turn and goes up along the esophagus to meet the gums. So, they explained that attaching the tongue to the gum connects the Conception Vessel and the Governing Vessel.
It is desirable to stick the tongue to the roof of the mouth or gums, so I recommend it, but it is clear that scientific opinions differ. When all organs go down through long training, you will experience that your tongue is rolled toward your throat. If you experience this, you will clearly know why you need to stick your tongue to the roof of your mouth. Anyway, even if you stick your tongue to the roof of your mouth, there are people whose saliva comes out of the salivary glands, so it must be a good method.
The way you treat your neck when doing sitting meditation is also very important. Always keep your neck straight and tuck your chin in towards your neck. This will help open the airways between your nostrils and mouth. As the neck area relaxes, the narrowed airways widen. As your airways widen, you will feel an unprecedented amount of oxygen coming in.
The posture of the back is also very important when sitting in meditation. The back should be straight, and the stomach should stick out. If you think you're making a duck butt, that would be the most correct position. The S-line is created naturally. When the body is relaxed, the strength in the lower back is relieved. In this case, if the lower back is left-bent, the lower back gradually bends forward. Never bend your back. Remember to be especially careful when your body is relaxed. Always keep your posture straight and your stomach forward. Did you know that pregnant women automatically open their danjeon? Please speculate on it.
Are there any parts of meditation that are not important? All of them are things that must be kept together, so please be sure to follow them.
