When we eat food that has skin, we remove
the peel and throw it away. But, if peels are put to good use, we could save
money and have eco-friendly products. Food waste would also be reduced, so it
is like killing two birds with one stone. Let's look at peels’ reverse charms.
Ⅰ. Housekeeping
1. Apples
Sometimes, you might have burned a pot.
Although you wash the pot with a sponge, it doesn’t clean the pot well enough.
This problem is solved with an apple's peel. First, put apple peels in water
and boil for 10 minutes. Adding a little vinegar makes it more effective. Dip
the sponge into the boiled water. If you wipe the pot with the wet sponge, the
pot can be cleaned much more easily.
2. Lemons
A
lemon's peel has antibacterial and sterilizing powers, which can make it a
natural cleaner. Put the lemon peel in water and boil until half of the water
evaporates. If the lemon's peel brews well, put it in a spray bottle. It can be
used when you clean a hand-stained mirror or cell phone surfaces. It has a
lemon's scent, so it is a nice natural air freshener.
3. Bananas
You
might have worried about old leather. A banana's peel can change old leather.
First, scrub the old leather with the inner peel. Next, polish it with a towel.
Then, you can make the leather as good as new.
4. Oriental melons
An
oriental melon's peel is effective at removing bad odors. Dry the peels and put
them in a refrigerator to remove the food smell. If you put the peel in a shoe
rack, you can remove the smell and some of the moisture as well.
5. Tangerines
A
tangerine's peel can be used in various ways. First, boil a pot or frying pan
that is oily and greasy from cooking fish with water and a tangerine's peel.
Then, you can easily get rid of the fish smell and grease. Second, dry the
peels and boil in water. Put white clothes in the boiled water for 10 minutes
and you will be impressed with its bleaching effect. Third, a dried peel can
act as a natural air freshener in rooms and bathrooms.
1. Potatoes
A
potato's starch contents are useful for cleaning up. First, polish mirrors and
bathrooms covered in grime with a potato's peel. Next, wipe with a towel and

clean a bottle with potato’s peel. Put peels and water in the bottle and shake
it. Then, the slime in bottle is removed.
1. Egg
An
egg's shell is used for fertilizer. Because an egg's shell includes minerals
such as calcium, it helps plants to grow. Also, an egg's shell is effective for
cleaning mixing machines. Grind the shell in the mixer with water , then the
stains on mixer will disappear. After cleaning the mixer, dry crumbling shells.
These can be used as fertilizer to plants.
Ⅱ. Facial packs
1. Watermelon
You
might throw away a watermelon's thick peel, but it can be used as a facial
pack. A watermelon's peel consists of about 90% water. If you burn your skin
under the summer sun, cut the white portion of a watermelon into small pieces
and put them in the refrigerator for 20 minutes. Then, take out the pieces and
put them on your face. It has a soothing and calming effect.
2. Grapes

grapes have anti-oxidants. So, a grape's peel helps improve aging skin. A
grape's seed also has anti-oxidants. Grind grapes’ peels and seeds with milk.
