연쇄살인범을 처단하는 연쇄살인범 덱스터 악이 재미삼아 사람을 죽이는 시대이다. 물론 그 시대는 지금 뿐만은 아니다. 어느 곳 어느 시절이나 법의 이름으로 또는 개인의 이름으로 연쇄살인은 있다. 이런 살인범을 만나게 된 것은 참으로 우연이다. 드라마를 보기 시작한 것이 문제라면 문제였다. 막나가는 폭력과 살인에 대한 저항할 수 없는 자들이 바라는 희망은 만만한 법이 아니라 잔혹한 처단자 덱스터를 바라기에 그런가.
취미 활동으로 드라마를 잘 보지 않는다는 이유는 이제 사라졌다. 한밤에 잠결에 문득 문득 채널을 돌리면서 보던 CSI를 어느 날엔가 다 보고, 아줌마들의 수다가 지겹다하던 위기의 주부들에 홀딱 빠져 다 보고 생면부지 타인 같던 덱스터
덱스터는 누구인가. 이 드라마 이전에 덱스터는 Jazz Man - Dexter Gordon가 있다. 살인과는 너무 다른 세계의 재즈 맨 덱스터의 음악에는 파란만장한 재즈 인생이 살아 있고 그 만큼 재즈를 사랑하고, 색소폰에 대한 애정을 지녔던 사람도 드물다. 그렇기에 그는 마약을 탐닉했고, 술과 알코올, 마약에 찌들어 도저히 보통사람으로서는 재기할 수 없는 만신창이가 된 상황에서도 재즈를 위해 다시 일어섰다. 마약에 빠져 자신을 이길 수 없는 상황에서. 이성을 잃고 방황하던 시절, 불어댔던 그의 색소폰 소리가 좋다는 매니어가 있는 뮤지션 Dexter Gordon을 몰라도 요즘에는 연쇄살인범 덱스터가 더 알려졌다.
요즘 묻지 마 폭력과 묻지 마 살인이 횡행하는 시대다. 모녀를 죽이고 어린 소녀를 죽이는 살인범이 두 눈을 뜨고 있는 꼴을 우리는 수수방관 지켜보며 떼법에 눌려 늘 지는 법이 알아서 해주기를 바라는 어리석은 소망으로 산다. 그러나 그것은 우리 같은 평범한 소시민들의 순진한 바람일 뿐.
드라마 덱스터는 살인자를 죽이는 살인자라는 독특한 콘셉트의 이 드라마는 사실 원작소설이 있다.
소설의 작가인 제프 린제이는 '연쇄 살인이 무조건 나쁘기만 할까?' 라는 물음에 대한 답을 작품으로 구상해, 오랫동안 연쇄 살인 사건을 연구하고, 소설의 배경이 될 마이애미 곳곳을 취재해 이 작품을 발표하였다. 2004년 그가 애쓴 노력은 음흉하게 꿈꾸는 덱스터로 나왔다. 소설은 곧 베스트셀러가 되었고 배리 상과 매캐비티 상, 딜리스 윈 상 후보에 오르며 크 반향을 일으켰다. 배우, 코미디언, 연출가, 가수, 작곡가, 스포츠 캐스터, 방송 진행자 등 여러 방면에서 재능을 보인 제프 린제이가 작가로 변신하여 성공을 한 출세작이다.
세상의 평론가들은 작품의 주인공 덱스터 모간의 칭찬을 했다. 덱스터는 형사이지만 연쇄 살인범을 응징하는 또 다른 연쇄살인범이다. 소설의 내용은 잔혹하지만 덱스터의 성격을 따라가면 자연스레 웃음이 난다. 덱스터는 냉소적이며 사악하면서 웃긴다. 그의 행동은 밉지 않다. 그를 따라서 우리의 손에도 죽어야 할 자들의 피를 묻히고 싶은 지경이다. 제프 린제이는 이 유별난 개성의 주인공을 내세워 계속 시리즈를 발표하고 있다 두 번째 책 <끔찍하게 헌신적인 덱스터>가 출간 즉시 큰 성공을 거두었고, 곧이어 < 귀여운 아빠 덱스터>가 나올 참이다.
덱스터는 보름달이 떠오르면 연쇄 살인범을 사냥하러 떠난다. 사람을 잔혹하게 살해한 그들에게 죄를 물으며 역시 잔혹한 방법으로 그들을 살해한다. 그는 왜 사람을 살해하게 되었을까? 덱스터는 살인충동을 억누를 수 없다.(그 이유는 작품 말미에 등장한다.) 자신이 아무리 억제하려고 해도 자신의 내부에서 요구하는 것을 제어하지 못한다. 그래서 의붓아버지인 해리의 지도 아래 나쁜 사람들만을 골라 살해하기로 결심한다. 덱스터는 아주 어릴 때 해리의 집으로 입양됐다. 그리고 해리는 덱스터에게 큰 영향을 끼치고 죽었고, 남은 가족은 여동생 데보라뿐이다. 두 사람은 모두 경찰이었던 해리의 영향을 받아 경찰이 되었다. 그러던 어느 날 두 사람이 근무하던 곳에서 연쇄 살인이 일어난다. 데보라는 그 사건을 스스로 해결해 경찰서에서 자신의 입지를 굳히고 싶어 한다. 그래서 덱스터에게 도움을 청한다. 덱스터는 데보라의 부탁도 있고 자신도 흥미가 생겨 이 사건을 수사하기 시작한다. 그런데 수사를 하면 할수록 자신이 난처해지는 상황에 처한다. 너무 자신의 수법과 비슷했던 것이다. 수사를 거듭하지만 범인의 행방은 도저히 알아낼 수 없다. 덱스터는 마침내 자신이 무의식중에 살인을 저지른 건지도 모르겠다는 결론을 내린다. 결국에는 사건이 해결되고, 덱스터의 과거와 관련된 끔찍한 기억이 살인사건과 큰 연관이 있었음이 밝혀진다. 소설에는 피가 튀기고, 잔인한 장면도 많이 나오지만 덱스터를 비롯한 마이애미 경찰들의 유머 섞인 재담들이 분위기를 반감시킨다. 그리고 그 점이 이 소설의 가장 큰 장점이라 할 수 있다.
미국의 쇼타임 TV에서 이 덱스터를 주인공으로 한 TV 미니시리즈를 제작하고 내가 본 덱스터가 이것이다,
시리즈의 처음에서 고아에게 다정한 신부이면서 고아들을 연쇄 살해한 신부를 처단하러 덱스터가 나선 밤은 십오야 보름이었다.
섬뜩하기보다 덱스터의 감정에서 흥분된 시작으로 글머리가 풀려간다.

달. 휘황찬란한 달. 통통하게 살이 오른 볼그레한 달. 대낮처럼 환한 밤에 달빛이 쏟아지고 있었다. 달빛이 스치는 땅에서 환희가 꿈틀거렸다. 열대의 밤의 요란한 외침, 팔뚝의 털을 헤치며 올라오는 바람의 부드러우면서 거친 숨소리. 별빛의 희미한 울부짖음, 그리고 수면을 훑어가는 달빛의 이가는 소리가 들려왔다.
그에게 죽는 자들은 이런 자들이다.
평범한 가장인 듯 보이지만 알고 보면 소년들을 도륙하는 살인범과, 여성들을 강간 살해하고 스너프 필름을 찍어내는 주차요원과 사람 좋은 간호사로 보이지만 알고 보면 환자들에게 극약을 주사해 서서히 죽게 만드는 간호사가 처단된다.
덱스터는 해리와 함께 만든 룰에 따라 법의 심판을 피한 악인을 찾아 죽인 후, 전리품처럼 그들의 혈흔을 슬라이스에 담아 보관한다.
드라마 속에서 텍스토가 버린 시체들이 떠올라서 그 시체 하나하나가 다 법망을 피했던 살인자라는 것을 알게 된 마이아미 시민들은 남녀노소 할 것 없이 그를 신의 집행자라고 까지 한다.
덱스터의 어머니가 전기톱으로 절단 살해당하던 그 자리에서 그 모습을 보았던 유년의 기억이 있다, 그를 구해주고 가족으로 받아준 아버지 해리는 경찰관이다. 아버지는 경찰로 근무하면서 법이 정의를 지키지 못하는 상황을 봐왔던 해리는 덱스터가 정의를 실현해줄 수 있으리라 믿는다. 해리는 덱스터에게 어떤 살인은 정당할 수 있다고 가르친다. 어릴 적부터 피를 보면 이상하리만치 흥분하게 되고, 살인충동을 억제하지 못하는 덱스터를 지켜보면서 해리는 정신병원에 데려가는 대신 어린 덱스터에게 살인 충동을 조절하는 법과 죽일 대상을 정하고 행동을 취한 후 증거를 남기지 않는 법을 가르친다.
덱스터는 덱스터의 ‘남과 다름’을 알아챈 양아버지로부터 자신의 ‘다름’을 통제법을 배운다. 그 방법이라는 것은 바로 위장술로서 ‘~인 체 하는 것, 남들과 다르지 않고 유사하다는 척을 하는 것이다. 그리고 감춰진 욕망을 분출할 수 있는 다른 배출구를 만들어 둔다. 매력적인 여자 친구를 옆에 두고도 연애 감정을 꾸며내고, 또 다른 연쇄 살인범의 등장에 동질감을 느끼는 주인공의 모습은 얼핏 보면 전혀 이해되지 않는 일 같기도 하다. 우리와는 상관없는 일처럼 보일 수도 있다. 그러나 그가 여자 친구와 함께 꿈에 대해 이야기하는 장면은 마음속에 큰 울림을 남겼다. 아픔을 겪어 봤던 여자친구와, 내면의 공허함을 가진 주인공이 공통으로 가진 꿈은 바로 평범함이다. 그저 평균적으로, 큰 굴곡 없이 남들과 같이 사는 것. 그건 너무 간단하지만 너무 어려운 꿈이다.
드라마의 배역을 살펴본다.
마이클 C.홀 (덱스터 모건 役) <식스 핏 언더(Six Feet Under)> 에서 David Fisher 역을 맡았다. 하지만 그는 드라마보다 연극 쪽에서 두각을 나타낸 것으로 보인다. 오프브로드웨이 무대에서 다양한 연극과 뮤지컬에 출연했었다. 그 중에서도 눈에 띄는 것은 <시카고>와 <카바레>. <시카고>에서는 남자 주인공 빌리 플린 역을, <카바레>에서도 주인공인 엠씨 역을 맡았었다.
제니퍼 카펜터 (데브라 모건役) 덱스터의 동생 데브라 모건. 말단 경찰관에서 시작했으나, 실력을 인정받고 강력계 형사로 진급했다. 하지만 그녀를 곱게 보지 않는 상사인 라구에타 경위의 괴롭힘 때문에 순조롭지 않은 나날을 보내고 있다. 데브라의 정신적인 지주이자 친구인 사람은 오빠인 덱스터다.
덱스터가 범죄를 분석하는 데 탁월한 능력을 가지고 있음을 알고, 사건에 대한 해결을 알려달라며 오빠를 보채곤 한다. 그녀가 바로 <엑소시즘 오브 에밀리로즈>의 에밀리로즈였다는 사실에 더욱 놀랐다. 온 몸은 물론이고 얼굴의 모든 근육을 비틀어대며 악을 써대던 에밀리로즈가 덱스터의 동생이다.
줄리 벤즈 (리타役) 욕구라는 게 온통 살인에만 치우쳐 있다 보니 성욕에 힘을 쓸 틈이 없는 덱스터에게 딱 맞는 여자 친구 리타. 남편에게 강압적인 성행위를 강요받다 이혼한 아픔이 있다. 두 아이의 엄마로 순수함과 아름다움을 겸비하고 있으며, 덱스터와는 묘한 애정관계를 유지하는 리타는 줄리 벤즈의 가느다란 목소리와 아줌마스러운 몸매와 참으로 잘 어울린다. 줄리 벤즈는
C.S.LEE (빈스 마쓰카 役) 한국계 배우로 아쉽지만 덱스터에선 일본인으로 출연. 어떠한 상황에서도 성적농담을 뿌린다. 서에서는 과학수사 증거물관련 일을 맡고 있다
데이빗 사야스 (엔젤 바티스타 役) 현재 이혼 후 별거중인 강력계 형사. 삼바를 좋아하고 부인을 상당히 아끼나 결국은 이혼을 하고 덱스터를 가장 좋은 친구로 생각하고 있다
제임스 레마 (해리 모건 役) 상당히 친숙한 배우, 덱스터의 아버지역
로렌 벨레스 (마리아 라구에타 役) 해고대상 0순위인 마이애미경찰서 반장. 독스와 파트너였으며 실제 푸에트리코 출신.
에릭 킹 (독스 役) 덱스터의 이상한 낌새를 눈치 챈 유일한 사람. 덱스터의 혈흔전문가로서의 능력은 인정한다. 하지만 마냥 덱스터가 싫어 덱스터와의 대화중 거의 다 욕설이다. 확실한 물증을 잡고 덱스터를 추적하다가 역으로 포로가 된다.
크리스티안 카마고 (루디 役) 보형물전문가, 살인을 하되 피를 뽑아서 절단하는 살인자로 이의 대상은 창녀들이다. 그는 덱스터의 형이며 덱스터 동생의 애인이다. 덱스터의 손에 의하여 죽는다. 역시 절단 상태로 죽는다.
시즌 1의 줄거리에서 한 부분을 살펴본다.
덱스터의 오프닝 장면은 아침에 일어나서하는 일반인과 다를 것 없는 행동들이지만 드라마의 오프닝의 분위기는 좀 섬뜩하다.
Miami서의 유능한 과학 수사의 전문가로 혈흔 분석관 Dexter의 또 다른 모습은 법망을 피한 사악한 살인자들을 처형하는 것이다. 그런 그가 어느 날 완전히 피를 뽑힌 채 절단된 예술적이기까지 한 사체와 만난다. Ice Track Killer의 작품이다. Dexter Morgan과 한 서에서 여동생 데브라 모건도 아버지와 같은 경찰관이 되고 싶어서 일반 순경에서 노력 끝에 강력계 형사로 근무를 한다. Dexter에게는 살인의 충동을 억제할 수 없는 정신 이상자이나 표적을 정해 차례차례로 증거를 남기지 않고 처형하는 완벽 주의자이다. 그의 표적은 법망을 피한 흉악범이며 인간쓰레기로서 정의감으로 처형하나 처형은 잔학한 능지처참이다. 인체를 각 부분별로 절단하다. 그리고 그는 컬렉션으로서 처형한 사람의 혈흔을 파일처럼 모은다. Dexter는 어릴 적에 동물을 죽이는 것을 아버지Harry가 발견한다. 그의 이상한 살인 충동을 이해하면서 그 충동은 극악한 인간에게 쓰이도록 수법을 일일이 일러준다. Dexter는 상사에게 좋은 청년이며 인품과 덕망이 두텁다. 하평상시는 일도 잘 하고 인품도 좋고 덕망도 두껍다. 부딪치는 사람은 현장의 형사 Angel Batista (as David Zayas)이며 말투가 늘 거칠다. Sergent James Doakes와는 친하고 강력 팀의 Boss, Lt. Maria LaGuerta (as Lauren Velez)에게는 사랑받고 있다.
한 편 그는 사적으로 Single mother인 Rita Bennett (as Julien Benz)와 그 사람의 아이들 Astor (as Christina Robinson와 Cody (as Daniel Goldman)와도 각별한 사이이다. 본능적으로Dexter의 이상성이기도 하다. 그런 그의 생활을 바꾼 것이은 피를 뽑혀 아름답고 절단된 시체에 Dexter는 매료되어 버린다. 차례차례로 거리의 여인들은 살해하여 "Ice Track Killer"라 불리는 또 다른 살인자를 부지불식간에 중에 뒤쫓아서 간다. 그도 Dexter에게 접촉을 시도한다, 그 접근 방법은 신출귀몰하여 오싹하다. Dexter는 그와의 접촉을 즐기고 있는 듯하다. 일견 동업자의 우호적인 커뮤니케이션으로 보이기까지 하다. 여동생의 Debra는 이"Ice Track Killer"를 쫓는 것으로 승진을 목표로 하고 있다. Dexter의 협력을 얻고 맹추격하여 서 내에서의 평판이 서서히 올라간다.

Dexter Morgan, Miami Metro Police Department blood spatter analyst, has a double life. His sister, Debra, a vice squad officer, pulls Dexter into her world when a series of hookers are being murdered around Miami. With his help, she sees a chance to get on the good side of her boss, Lt. LaGuerta. SEASON 1: EPISODE THREE - "The Popping Cherry"
Dexter is called in to help Debra with the investigation into the Ice Truck Killer's latest murder, while Dexter hunts his latest victim, a teenager named Jeremy who is a recently released murderer who looks like he's about to kill again. Despite Debra and Dexter's protestations, Lt. LaGuerta starts a manhunt for Tony Tucci, the nightwatchman videotaped at the ice rink where body parts were found. But while the manhunt for Tucci begins, a skeptical Debra keeps looking for the "real" Ice Truck Killer. Meanwhile, Doakes decides to go after the crime boss at his church, confronting him and his daughter about his part in the murder of a cop and his wife. Rita, Dexter's girlfriend, has her own troubles when someone from her incarcerated husband's past comes to visit, demanding repayment of drugs lost by her husband.
SEASON 1: EPISODE FOUR - "Let's Give the Boy a Hand"
Dexter's past comes to life when body parts begin appearing throughout Miami, gifts from the Ice Truck Killer. The horrific tableaus created in places of Dexter's childhood memories start to make Dexter question his own past and his reasons for controlling his dark urges. Meanwhile, LaGuerta's hunt for Tony Tucci has to go in a different direction when new information comes to light about Tucci and his connection to the Ice Truck Killer. Doakes, the lead investigator of the Ice Truck Killer case, becomes afraid for his life when a crime boss puts his thugs on the trail of Doakes, 'innocently' following him wherever he goes.
SEASON 1: EPISODE FIVE - "Love American Style"
Debra's discovery of an Ice Truck Killer victim being found alive gives LaGuerta and her Homicide detectives their first chance to identify the notorious serial killer. Debra and Doakes, assigned to the case, sit with the mutilated victim, in the hopes that he will be able to identify the killer. While Dexter works on the case, Rita tells Dexter about a friend of hers whose fiance has disappeared while immigrating from Cuba by way of a coyote (a human trafficker). When the fiance turns up dead, Dexter decides to hunt down the murderous coyote. But things don't go as planned when Dexter realizes that there is more to the vicious trafficker than his careful stalking prepared him for.
SEASON 1: EPISODE SIX - "Return to Sender"
Dexter arrives at a crime scene to find one of his victims he has disposed of has mysteriously returned to the scene of the kill. Dexter figures that it's the Ice Truck Killer, letting him know that he knows what Dexter is up to. The noose is tightened further, when LaGuerta finds a young Cuban boy hiding at the crime scene ? there's no way he missed seeing Dexter capture the victim. Dexter has to figure out a plan to stay out of the crosshairs of his own Homicide Division while investigating his own crime. Meanwhile, Rita has to deal with her abusive ex-husband, Paul, when he's released from jail and wants to come to their daughter's birthday party.
SEASON 1: EPISODE SEVEN - "Circle of Friends"
Debra and Batista find proof that Neil Perry is the Ice Truck Killer when they find a body beneath Neil's trailer home. A manhunt ensues to find and capture Neil before he kills again. As more and more evidence rises to the surface, Dexter is left adrift. Neil Perry, the supposed Ice Truck Killer, doesn't live up to his expectations. Meanwhile, Dexter has to deal with his past when a teenager he caught and released murders again. As a result, Dexter sets out to correct this mistake in one of the only ways he knows how. Rita's family life is torn asunder as her paroled ex-husband, Paul, reasserts himself as the father of her children. Paul even confronts Dexter, letting him know that he doesn't like Dexter being around his wife and kids. Rita wishes that Paul would go away forever, something that is definitely possible when your boyfriend happens to be Dexter.
SEASON 1: EPISODE EIGHT - "Shrink Wrap"
While looking into a series of suicides of high profile, powerful women, Dexter realizes a pattern: they all saw the same shrink. Dexter goes into stalk mode and becomes a patient of the shrink to ascertain whether or not he is the killer that he seems to be. Unexpectedly, the shrink helps Dexter unlock dark secrets from his past. Debra's latest relationship with Rudy also quickly heats up. Dexter's relationship with Rita, however, seems to be in danger as Paul works his way deeper into Rita's life and much to Rita's consternation, the kids love him and he's actually civil to her. Meanwhile, Dexter's certainty that Neil Perry is not the Ice Truck Killer helps LaGuerta to decide to not just accept Neil's confession, despite mounting evidence to the contrary.
SEASON 1: EPISODE TEN - "Seeing Red"
Dexter's world is shaken when he is called to the crime scene of a massacre unlike any that he's ever seen before... or so he thinks, until a series of memories comes streaming back that shock him to his core. Meanwhile, Rita has to hire a lawyer when Paul brings a surprising case against her to take sole custody of their children. Batista follows a new lead on the Ice Truck Killer case that brings him one step closer to apprehending the sadistic serial killer. But does it bring him too close? The Ice Truck Killer strikes again, leaving a real nightmare before Christmas at Santa's Cottage. But this time, Dexter notices that the kill is not as 'tidy' as the previous kills, as if the Ice Truck Killer is rushing to leave Miami. But in reality, the Ice Truck Killer has kidnapped someone very close to Dexter to lure him into a trap that will change Dexter's life forever. Meanwhile, Sgt. Doakes notices that Dexter has been acting strangely around the Homicide division, making him wonder if in fact, Dexter is the Ice Truck Killer.
SEASON 1: EPISODE TWELVE - "Born Free"
Dexter's loyalties are put to the test as he follows clues that the Ice Truck Killer leaves for him. But as Dexter goes on the hunt, he wonders just how deep he will have to go down the Ice Truck Killer's dark and demented path. Doakes, still thinking that Dexter may be the Ice Truck Killer, uses questionable methods to stop Dexter from his hunt for the Ice Truck Killer. Meanwhile, as Dexter remains unavailable to Rita, her ex-husband, Paul, tries to convince her that Dexter is a very dangerous man to have around their children.
SEASON 2: EPISODE ONE - "It's Alive!"
After killing his brother, the Ice Truck Killer, at the end of last season, Dexter now finds himself unable to kill again. He certainly wants to, and in fact needs to, but he is unnerved by feelings he can't understand. After nearly being killed by the Ice Truck Killer, Debra returns to work at Miami Metro PD, but shows signs that she may not be ready to resume duty just yet.

Despite Debra and Dexter's protestations, Lt. LaGuerta starts a manhunt for Tony Tucci, the nightwatchman videotaped at the ice rink where body parts were found. But while the manhunt for Tucci begins, a skeptical Debra keeps looking for the "real" Ice Truck Killer. Meanwhile, Doakes decides to go after the crime boss at his church, confronting him and his daughter about his part in the murder of a cop and his wife. Rita, Dexter's girlfriend, has her own troubles when someone from her incarcerated husband's past comes to visit, demanding repayment of drugs lost by her husband.
SEASON 1: EPISODE FOUR - "Let's Give the Boy a Hand"
Dexter's past comes to life when body parts begin appearing throughout Miami, gifts from the Ice Truck Killer. The horrific tableaus created in places of Dexter's childhood memories start to make Dexter question his own past and his reasons for controlling his dark urges. Meanwhile, LaGuerta's hunt for Tony Tucci has to go in a different direction when new information comes to light about Tucci and his connection to the Ice Truck Killer. Doakes, the lead investigator of the Ice Truck Killer case, becomes afraid for his life when a crime boss puts his thugs on the trail of Doakes, 'innocently' following him wherever he goes.
SEASON 1: EPISODE FIVE - "Love American Style"
Debra's discovery of an Ice Truck Killer victim being found alive gives LaGuerta and her Homicide detectives their first chance to identify the notorious serial killer. Debra and Doakes, assigned to the case, sit with the mutilated victim, in the hopes that he will be able to identify the killer. While Dexter works on the case, Rita tells Dexter about a friend of hers whose fiance has disappeared while immigrating from Cuba by way of a coyote (a human trafficker). When the fiance turns up dead, Dexter decides to hunt down the murderous coyote. But things don't go as planned when Dexter realizes that there is more to the vicious trafficker than his careful stalking prepared him for.
SEASON 2: EPISODE SIX - "Dex, Lies, and Videotape"
Dexter is none too pleased to discover a copy-cat killer has started his own attempt at vigilante serial murder in Miami. He is even less pleased to learn the new killer claims to be inspired by the "Bay Harbor Butcher." As Dexter sets out to stop the imposter, he finds himself drawn into the arms of Lila. When Rita discovers the truth, it could be the end of their relationship.

A written manifesto from the "Bay Harbor Butcher" sends the Special Task Force in charge of capturing the killer into chaos. All part of Dexter's plan as he tries to be more "pro-active" in keeping Agent Lundy off his tail. But things start to spiral downward for Dexter as Lila's influence begins to take its toll on Dexter's personal life.
