As usual I searched for some vocaburaries that we couldn't pop up during studying.
After reading it, why don't we make at least one sentences by using these words?
Especially, the vaca you like !! It will help you memorize more easily ^ ^
Okay let's get started !!
* 어이없다 : dumbfounded, aghast (명사앞에서 사용되지 않음)
e.g. I am at a loss for words (어이가 없어서 말이 안나온다)
e.g. I was dumbfounded at the ridiculousness of the rumor. (소문이 황당해서 어이가 없었다)
e.g. That beats everything/all. or That beats the Dutch. (참 어이가 없구나!)
(말, 글에서의) 어이없는 실수 : howler
e.g. The report is full of howlers. (그 보고서는 실수투성이다)
어이가 없어서 : in surprise
e.g. John laughed in surprise when Cynthia pointed him.
* (긴장, 걱정, 위험 등이 사라져서) 마음을 놓다, 한숨 돌리다 : breathe easily(easy, again, freely)
e.g. Now that my big work project is done, I can breathe easy. (큰 프로젝트가 끝이 나서 이젠 한숨 돌릴 수 있다)
안심하다 : breathe/rest easy
e.g. You can rest easy. I'm not going ot tell anyone. (안심해도 돼. 아무에게도 말 안할테니까)
* 눈길을 돌리다/피하다 : look away (from)
e.g. He couldn't stand the cruel spectacle and looked away. (그는 그 잔인한 광경을 참지 못하고 눈길을 돌렸다)
* 방송국 : (건물) broadcasting(radio, TV) station (회사) broadcasting company(network)
e.g. The radio station signs on at 6 a.m. (그 라디오 방송국은 오전 6시에 방송을 시작합니다)
* 목사 : minister, pastor, rector
e.g. The minister put in his clutch for a moment. (목사는 잠시동안 침묵했다.)
신부 : Father, (Catholic) priest
* 출마하다 : candidacy (for) / candidature, stand (for) ;British / run for ; American
e.g. run(stand) for election (선거에 출마하다)
e.g. run(stand) for the Presidency (대통령선거에 출마하다)
* 과하다 : excessive, (formal) immoderate
e.g. Don't you think you're overdoing it? (너무 과하게 쓰는 거 아니예요?)
* 유리상자 : a glassed case, a glass box
e.g. Lastly, Rita sees a lamp in a glassed case. (마지막으로 Rita는 유리상자 안의 램프를 본다)
* 사회자 : (회의의) chairperson (방송의) host, MC (Master of Ceremonies)
e.g. act as the chairperson of a meeting. (회의의 사회자를 맡다)
e.g. He is the host/MC of this quiz show. (그는 이 퀴즈 프로그램의 사회자다.)
* 자극적인 : 냄새 : a pungent smell
표현 : a provocative comment/remark/statement
자극적이었다 : It was stimulating.
e.g. It's good for your health to avoid foods that are spicy of strong-tasting.
(건강을 위해 맵고 자극적인 음식을 피하는 것이 좋다.)
* 화나게하다 : make somebody angry, enrage, infuriate
e.g. He has infuriated me not a little anxiety. (그는 날 아주 화나게 했다.)
* 멀리하다 : avoid, keep away (from), keep off ; 일시적으로, (formal) lay off ; 절제하다, abstrain (from)
e.g. His doctor has told him to abstrain from drinking alcohol. (의사는 그에게 술을 멀리하라고 경고했다.)
e.g. I am trying to keep off greasy/fatty food. (나는 기름진 음식을 멀리하려고 노력 중이다.)
* 외박하다 : sleep out, stay out overnight
e.g. My father never allows me to stay out overnight. (아버지는 외박하는 것을 절대 허락하시지 않으신다.)
* (약점, 허물 등을) 감싸다 : defend, cover(speak, stand, stick) up for
e.g. My mother always covers(stands) up for me. (엄마는 항상 나를 감싸주신다)
* 입원하다 : n. hospitalization v. enter (go into) a hospital, be hospitalized
e.g. He was hospitalized for diagnosis and treatment. (그는 진단과 치료를 위하여 입원했다.)
* 무시하다 : ignore, disregard, neglect, pass over
e.g. My opinion was passed over. (내 의견은 무시되었다.)
* 고령화, 노화 : graying 고령화 사회 : elderly society
e. g. The population is aging. (인구가 고령화되고 있다.)
* 놀리다 : pull one's leg
* 간호조무사 : nurse's aide
* 치아교정 : Straightening teeth
e.g. Starightening teeth is that dentist's specialty. (치아교정은 그 치과의사의 전문이다)
e.g. She is having her teeth straightened. (그녀는 치아교정중이다)
* 치석 : tartar, scale
e.g. remove(scrape) tartar from (one's) teeth / scale (one's) teeth (치석을 제거하다)
* 엑스레이 사진을 찍다 : be X-rayed, have(get) an X-ray taken
e.g. Did you get a chest X-ray? (흉부엑스레이 찍었어?)
* 의식을 차리다(기절 후) : come around/round
e.g. Did she come around from the surgery? (수술 후에 정신이 돌아왔습니까?)
* 기절하다 : faint, pass out, black out, lose consciousness
e.g. She blacked out when she heard the news. (그녀는 그 소식을 듣고 기절했다)
* 소아과 : (의학) pediatrics (병원) pediatric hospital, children's hospital
e.g. She is a wonderful pediatrician. (그녀는 훌륭한 소아과 의사이다)
* 안과 : (의학) ophthalmology (병원) ophthlmic clinic
e.g. go see an eye doctor. (안과에 가다)
* 뇌경색 : cerebral infarction
* 냉소적인 : cynical
e.g. Maybe I am just too cynical. (아마 나는 꽤 냉소적인 것 같다)
* 선천적인 : innate, inborn (타고난)
e.g. The innate ability to learn (타고난 학습능력)
* 후천적인 : learned (학습된), acquired (습득된)
e.g. The way we think and behave is mostly acquired. (우리 행동양식의 대부분은 후천적인 것이다.)
* 모범적인 : exemplary, model
e.g. So I think they have behaved in an ememplary manner. (그래서 나는 그들이 모범적인 태도를 보였다고 생각한다)
* 가식의 : false, affected, hypocritical, ostentatious, showy
e.g. All such big pretensions are false. (그렇게 거들먹거리는 것들은 모두 가식일 뿐이다.)
