Breed Types There are 3 types of Irish Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers. Although to most people, the difference seems only in coat structure and texture, there are in many cases, fundamental differences in the anatomical structure of these dogs. Here, we will only differentiate on the basis of coat. | |

Irish Type This is the type of coat we strive for here in our kennel. We believe that this is the correct coat, as described in the Breed Standard and the coat that is found in Ireland. It is very unusual to find dogs of 100% Irish ancestry not to have this coat type. The individual strands of hair have an almost human hair structure to it and have that unique silver sheen of it. This is the most beautiful coat type. |

English Type This coat type has occurred in many dogs that have their bloodlines based on English lines. The coat is thick and the individual hair strands are thin and the coat lacks the unique silver sheen of the Irish coat. |

American Type This coat very often is cottony, fly-away coat that can be stylised and cut into shape. This coat is totally foreign and we believe falls into the eliminating section of the breed standard. Anatomically, these dogs are very different to the correct Irish type. |
