What does the alpha and omega symbol mean in Christianity?
The alpha and omega are the first and last letters in the Greek alphabet. It signifies that Christ is both the beginning and ending of creation and human history.
For those who rely on Christ’s death as the satisfaction of God’s righteous demands against their sin, and who believe God raised Him from the dead, this means our Creator will give them eternal life, and spend the rest of eternity with them, in a state of blessing. For those who reject Christ’s atonement for their sin, it will mean eternal damnation, away from the presence of God, in the lake of fire (2 Thessalonians 1:8; Revelation 19–20)
What does the alpha and omega symbol mean in Christianity?
Alpha and omega are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet.
Cities used to have walls to keep out wild animals and wild people. All enemies lived north of the holy lands, so sometimes they would get bored and go south to stir up some trouble. When a city was attacked they would send a messenger to the next city to the south, and then they would send more messengers to advise them of the progress of the battle. Sometimes an attack would be swift and strong such that there was time for only one messenger. He would then announce “I am the alpha and the omega.” IOW the only warning you get.
Don’t you think that when Jesus said “I am alpha and omega”, because his language was Aramaic or Hebrew and it’s written from right to left, he was referring to the written symbol “ (omega) (alpha)”?
No, I don’t. I think he was referring to the fact that alpha is the first letter of the Greek alphabet and omega is the last letter of the Greek alphabet, regardless of which direction they are written on the page.
And I don’t think it matters, anyway. Which direction you write it in is completely irrelevant to the message conveyed.
