[000] Now, the Rest of the Story.
[001] Robert Harmon was a hatmaker returning home to Portland,
Maine, from a business trip.
[002] His wife Eunice met him at the door, her expression
grave.
[003] It was their daughter Ellen, the distressed mother
reported she'd had a mishap.
[004] Robert did not wait for an explanation, he hurried up the
stairs to the 9-year-old girl's bedroom, but there, lying
in Ellen's bed was a stranger, another little girl it
seemed, one with grotesque facial features and in an all
but unconscious stupor.
[005] The child whom Robert did not at first recognize was, of
course, Ellen herself.
[006] "The doctor did not expect her to survive," Eunice
whispered, fighting back tears.
[007] The injury that had caused this occurred thus:
[008] Ellen and her twin sister Elizabeth and a classmate had
been walking home from school through a public park.
[009] They'd been followed by a 13-year-old girl who, angered
over something, now forgotten, began chasing them.
[010] Ellen's unwitting mistake was turning to see how far
behind the girl was when, at that instant, a stone hurled
by her pursuer stuck her in the face, hard.
[011] Ellen fell unconscious, awakened at a nearby general
store where her sister and friend had taken her.
[012] Her clothing was soaked with her own blood, a concerned
customer offered to rush her to the town doctor in his
carriage, but Ellen insisted that she would be fine.
[013] How wrong she was!
[014] When it became evident that Ellen could not walk, her two
companions carried her home.
[015] She had been in the coma ever since, and Robert Harmon,
listening incredulously to the account of his daughter's
misfortune, wept bitterly.
[016] Matter of fact, little Ellen did not die, and when she
awakened from the coma 3 weeks later, she had no
recollection of what [it] had happened to her.
[017] The youngster's disfigurement slowly subsided, but she
never did fully recover from the assault.
[018] Twice she tried to return to school but found reading and
retaining what she was taught all but impossible.
[019] And for the rest of her life, she was to suffer an
astonishing array of lingering ill effects from that
solitary injury: pains, paralys[i]s, dizziness and
depression, frequent seizures associated with temporal
lobe epilepsy.
[020] "A lifelong invalid," she would call herself.
[021] And yet she would also confess, "the cruel blow which
blighted the joys of earth was the means of turning my
eyes to Heaven.
[022] Americans, the world over, in the nearly 200 years since
that cruel blow was struck in 1837, its recipient would
be hailed by millions as a messenger of God, as a
prolific author, and even a prophetess on whose shoulders
would be built the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
[023] For the girl who could scarcely read or learn, ultimately
became a revered Bible scholar, a woman who until she
died at 87 preached the gospel of good health, good
health.
[024] 200 years before her time, she was into nutrition, though
she never enjoyed good health herself.
[025] Ellen Gould Harmon White, that's right, the one you know
as Ellen G. White.
[026] Only now you know the Rest of the Story.

[000] 이제, the Rest of the Story입니다.
Ellen G.
White
[026] 이제야 당신은 the Rest of the Story를 알고 계십니다.
