7 Habits of Highly Effective People
by Stephen R Covey
Introduction
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is a popular book, published by Simon & Schuster, and written by Stephen R Covey. It provides a useful, sequential framework for understanding much about the process of Personal Development.
The 7 Habits approach is not a quick-fix prescription for personal growth. But, says Steven Covey, if you work hard at acquiring these habits, if you learn them well, think about them deeply and teach them to others, they will eventually become internalised. The 7 Habits will lead to fundamental change because they will affect who you are - your character - for the better.
Habits are basic to our personalities. Your personality was formed as the result of the habits you internalised as you grew up. Habits are not things we need to think about, they represent little success strategies or ways of coping with life that we have found to be helpful.
7 Habits Overview
The following, brief quotations are taken directly from The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. This is what Stephen R Covey has to say about the 7 Habits.
Habit 1. Be Proactive(주도적이 되라)
"Taking initiative does not mean being pushy, obnoxious, or aggressive. It does mean recognizing our responsibility to make things happen."
Habit 2. Begin With the End in Mind(목표를 확립하고 행동하라)
"(This habit)...is based on imagination -- the ability to envision, to see the potential, to create with our minds what we cannot at present see with our eyes..."
Habit 3. Put First Things First(소중한것부터 먼저하라)
"Create a clear, mutual understanding of what needs to be accomplished, focusing on what, not how; results not methods. Spend time. Be patient. Visualize the desired result."
Habit 4. Think Win-Win(상호이익을 추구하라)
"Win-Win is a frame of mind that constantly seeks mutual benefit in all human interactions. Win-Win means that agreements or solutions are mutually beneficial and satisfying."
Habit 5. Seek First to Understand, Then be Understood(경청한다음 이해시켜라)
""Seek First to Understand" involves a very deep shift in paradigm. We typically seek first to be understood. Most people do not listen with the intent to understand; they listen with the intent to reply. They"re either speaking or preparing to speak. They"re filtering everything through their own paradigms, reading their autobiography into other people"s lives."
Habit 6. Synergise(시너지를 활용하라)
"Synergy works; it"s a correct principle. It is the crowning achievement of all the previous habits. It is effectiveness in an interdependent reality - it is teamwork, team building, the development of unity and creativity with other human beings."
Habit 7. Sharpen the Saw(심신을 단련하라)
"This is the habit of renewal...It circles and embodies all the other habits. It is the habit of continuous improvement...that lifts you to new levels of understanding and living each of the habits."

** Pedro’s thought for Today’s topic**
It has been over 10 Years since Dr.Steven Covey’s 7-Habit of Highly Effective People published first.in korea.
Believe it or Not, this book has been changing individuals and companies seeking changes and innovations in their Life and Organizations.
Everyone dreams life-turing “Success” in their life just like ‘MC Mong’s song 180 degree’
But Steven covey define success in different point of views .This book shows readers how to get success by building proper life-time habit.
Like Covey’s saying, Genuine success in life is Not a Lotto-like-stuff, It takes pains, drills exercises, patiences, repeated failures etc.
I hope All JYM guys learn this precious lessons(JYM = 직영모) Thank you !!!
Sow a thought, reap an action
Sow a action, reap a habit
Sow a habit, reap a character
Sow a character, reap a destiny.

두번째주제 최근 논란이 되고있는 양심적 병역거부에 관한 이야기입니다.
War & Peace
The world still faces difficult questions about war and peace. Each of us probably asks at some time in our life, "What do I believe about war?" The purpose of this questionnaire is to encourage people who have strong concerns about participating in war and who might be conscientious objectors to answer that question and make a record of it. The answers could prove useful especially for those who might deal with the Selective Service System(대체복무제) or the military in the future. The answers could also help those who are struggling with questions concerning paying taxes for war and working in war-related jobs.
What is conscientious objection?
Generally, conscientious objection is a sincere conviction, motivated by conscience, that forbids someone from taking part in organized killing. This objection may apply to all forms or to particular aspects of war.
Who is a Conscientious Objector?
Many people have serious questions about whether it is right to take part in war. They may not know the term, or even that there is such a thing as conscientious objection to war, but they may be conscientious objectors.
The Constitution gives the government the power to raise an army, so people can be drafted to fight. But, there is also an established right to conscientious objection dating from before the Constitution. It is rooted in our cultural value of freedom-- and many religious groups(여호와의 증인등) originally came here so they could follow their religion without government interference. Many of these groups came specifically because their belief that killing and war are wrong created problems for them in the country they were fleeing.
Questions for Discussion
1. What is your personal opinion regarding WAR? Is it necessary for ultimate Peace?
2. According to the recent internet polls, majority of netizens are disagree to the Conscientious Objection, then what is your Opinion?
3. Many countries have adopted Selective Service System(대체복무제), Do you think our country should adopt this system as well?
4. Another controversial Question for Debate:
Should we send korea soldiers to IRAQ? Why? and Why Not
Pedro"s Thought
I myself is also reserved army who once suffered(?) for 26 months.
In the army, I was mistreated by senior soldiers and its system and only learned various swearwords and how to 'efficiently' kill enemy with guns and knives.
When I was drafted, I simply thought I should answer to my mother country"s divine calling.
But recently, Having seen so-called conscientious objectors who is fighting for PEACE.
I thought the contradiction of "WAR & PEACE"
Currently, we are living in korean penninsula, where the war situation against north korea is still continuing,
In this regards, Conscientious Objection issue is so called "Hot Potato"
And now, are you going to eat this "Hot potato" or NOT?
choice is yours but it will hurt you in anyway.
Thanks
