Panic struck this morning when a report surfaced that Mauricio “Shogun” Rua injured his knee in training and would possibly miss his Octagon debut at UFC 76 on September 22.
Fear not … the Brazilian is apparently well and fit enough to resume normal training, according to Tatame.com.
“I hurt the knee training. I [went] to the doctor, but a scare was alone. [The doctor] already liberated me to train normally.”
Shogun — perhaps the best 205-pound fighter in the world — appears to have dodged a bullet. Fans, too, should also be thankful that he is still on course to fight at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.
He is without a doubt one of the most exciting and explosive fighters on the planet. And he has the ability to turn a competitive division upside-down in a matter of months.
Put simply, Shogun is a guy who puts on a show every time he fights … and UFC 76 should be no different.
There’s no word yet on who he will be matched up against — stay tuned for more details.
