The following is part of my essay. A friend gave me some suggestions about it. I wonder what others' opinion on my friend's is.
* part of my essay
// My mother enjoys doing work by hand. She's good at all kinds of needleworks from sewing to knitting to quilting. However, in that talent, it is unlikely that 'like mother like daughter' fits me. I'm all thumbs in doing work by hand. //
* my friend's suggestion & some questions
1: "in that talent" --> "regarding [in regard to] the talent"
--> the one sounds awkward and the other is better.
2. "fits me" --> "applys to me"
--> The other is better?
--> Collins Corpus of "apply to me|him"

Does it apply to him then? Go on. [F0X] Well she's got nice
3. "I like to appreciate painting" & "I like appreciating painting"
--> The one means what the speaker wants to do temporarily while the other does the speaker's habit or characteristic. Is this right?
How about "begin to rain" and "begin raining"? What's the difference of the two?
4. In the sentence "I'm a two-year housewife and career woman expecting a brand new baby," does "a brand new baby" sound awkward?
--> I know "a brand new car" is a very common expression. Also, I remember hearing "a brand new baby" (without the meaning of joke!) on TV or movies.
--> The follwing is the results of Collins Corpus of "brand+new+baby|car"
//

5. In the sentence "Please keep in mind Korean style usually requires 4 to 10 dishes for each meal", Korean style means 'Korean food.' Does it sound ok? Could you give me a more natural expression?
eg.) "Korean people needs 4 to 10 dishes for each meal."
"Korean food needs/requires 4 ~~~~"

첫댓글Dear enjoyeng. You seem to be asking too many questions at once. It would be better if you focus on one or two at a time and do some research and thinking on your own. I will answer the first two questions. I do agree with your friend. It becomes easier if you think of this in Korean.

The first one is "talane에 관하여", which corresponds to "with respect to", "in regard to", etc., and the second is "내게 적용되지 않는다" rather than "맞지 않는다".
Thank you for your comment, and I'll keep in mind what you said. Thank you again!
