Do you procrastinate? Procrastination means to delay doing something you want or need to do. It leads to nasty feelings such as guilt, inadequacy, sadness and self-doubt. For example, you procrastinate when you do not do your homework, even though you know it is due the next morning.
Many people procrastinate. If you want to overcome procrastination, here are some things that might help you.
When you procrastinate, the negative feeling you once had for not doing what you needed to do decreases as time goes by. You feel bad for not doing your homework at first, but because you skip your homework more than once, this feeling gets less powerful.
You need to restart the feeling of reward for accomplishing things. Instead of lying on bed trying to wake up - which leads to getting to school late, hop out of bed and feel accomplished for being on time. The rewarding feeling will be a motivator to hop out of bed the next morning.
Do not easily forgive yourself for not accomplishing what you want. Instead let the rewarding feeling overpower it.
Other tips to overcome procrastination are to take lots of breaks, get motivated from rewarding feelings, and work smarter.
