"꼬마 모짜르트!" (Little Mozart)
Hello, I am Kyhealingstory’s Kyung Hye Shim. Antoine de Saint-Exupery, has become widely famous for his masterpiece, The Little Prince...Many also recognize Saint-Exupery as a monument in the literary world as well. Today, I want to introduce another phenomenal piece by Saint-Exupery, Wind, Sand, and Stars.
Uhh, this work is an autobiography of the author’s career as a pilot and wh
at he experienced as he looked down from the heights of his plane. This gave him the insight to look at the world at a wider/deeper perspective. Through this, he was able to create a charismatic work where the reader would understand what he thought during this time.
I can’t help but wonder if this book was written to awaken and relight a fiery passion inside all of us after being empty and frozen inside. Just like the warm and brilliant Spring light slowly melts away the Winter’s ice, the trickling sound of water would wake up something more inside all of us.
What I really want to introduce to you today is the last chapter of the book~ In this chapter the author was explaining the memories he had during the time he was traveling for a very long time on the train. He stood up and took a look around the long, long train. This train was returning back from France to Poland filled with hundreds of laborers who had been laid off. What he saw in the midst of the crowd, were people who seemed as if they were stuck in a bad dream.
In the crowd there was a infant who was breastfeeding but the child seemed so tired, Saint-Exupery could not help but wonder if it was just sleeping. But even in the midst of the chaotic train, the infant’s life was still continuing through the mother, and the author would go and explain what the father looked like. “ A powerful skull as naked as a stone. A body hunched over in uncomfortable sleep, imprisoned in working clothes, all humps and hollows. The man looked like a lump of clay, like on of those sluggish and shapeless derelicts that crumple into sleep in our public markets.” The author continued to write.
“But this same man and this same woman met one day. This man must have smiled at this woman. He may, after this work was done, brought her flowers...And this woman, out of natural coquetry, this woman sure of her charms, perhaps took pleasure in teasing him. And this man, this man who is now no more than a machine for swinging a pick or a sledge-hammer, must have felt in his heart a delicious anguish.”
But the crazy thing is the couple became lifeless soul. What unthinkable encounters have they gone through to become just a pile of dirt with their souls?
As animals age they retain their elegance and sophisticated image but these mud-like creatures we call humans, what breaks them down? What exactly happens that causes them to return back to a lifeless shell?
Then everyone, the novel ends with the finale of the author looking at the child sleeping in between it’s parents. The figure of the child moving around, was so lovable...as Saint-Exupery watched the child, Saint-Exupery thought to himself:
“This is musician’s face. This is the child Mozart. this is a life full of beautiful promise. Little princes in legends are not different from this. Protected, sheltered, cultivated, what could not this child become?... This little Mozart will be shaped like the rest by the common stamping machine. This little Mozart will love shoddy music in the stench of the night dives. This little Mozart is condemned.”
As the author returns back to his seat, he expressed his thoughts this way: “What torments me is not this poverty to which after all a man can accustom himself as easily as to sloth...What torments me is not the humps nor the hollows nor the ugliness. It is the sight, a little bit in all these men, of Mozart murdered.”
Everyone I want to introduce to you, the point of view of The Destruction of the Temple, from the Bible, which forebodes the warning of an end. This is a conversation between Jesus Christ and his disciples ... The disciples who were shocked at the immensity and grandiose of Herod’s Stone temple said this to Jesus Christ. “Teacher, Teacher look at that. Isn’t that amazing?” as the Disciples exclaimed, they faced the Stone Temple, and they did not spare the tribute. But everyone do you know what our Lord’s answer was? John 2:19 “...Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.” Matthew 24:2 “ ...There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown upon.” He said.
So you see, what do you think this story is supposed to mean? People are molded by the world to become like stone buildings, devoid of connection, warmth etc. But this stone building around us has to break away in order for human to human, human to God, and human to nature to become one. This way a true temple can be built inside all of us. Again, humans make their own idol in their mind, they have to break away from the selfish idol they create, and revive and live by the true form of God that was intended. This is the core value of Christianity.
But in the Bible, what do you think the righteous people were really like? Pharisees? Because they could not give up of their false godliness, they nailed the Messiah to the cross. Scribes? Because they could not give up of their biblical knowledge, they killed the Lord. Pontiff? Because they could not give up the religious hegemony, they nailed Christ to the cross. The most important question is, what is our own self really like? Do we believe we are righteous, believing that we are always right, judging others?
I will introduce a classic story. “ In the age when life on earth was full, no one paid any special attention to worthy men, nor did they single out the man of ability. Rulers were simply the highest branches of the tree, and the people were like deer in the woods. They were honest and righteous without realizing that they were “doing their duty.” they loved each other and did not know that this was “love of neighbor.” They deceived no one yet they did not know that they were “men to be trusted.” They were reliable and did not know that this was “good faith.” They lived freely together giving and taking, and did not know that they were generous. For this reason their deeds have not been narrated. They made no history.” You know, the moment you know you are righteous person, is the moment you aren’t anymore.
According to the Bible, you will start to see the symptoms of the world ending, and the remorseful words of Jesus is spoken! Mark 24:32 “Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and puts forth leaves, all of you know that summer is nigh:”. We are awake, we should know this. So that means you should stay awake and aware. If you are awake, then the word will be repeated. For example, when the sun rise in the morning, is there anything we are supposed to do? No. But it is crucially important for us to be awake for us to see the sun rise in the morning. We have to be awake in order for us to witness the glory of the sun rise. So what is the one lesson to be learned for the coming of the end of the world? Be awake!
Do you know what confuses and deceives us? It is Time. Because we are bonded by Time and Space, we try to connect the ending of the world to our time, but the time concept we created is not correct. We will never be able to express through our measurement of time because it is essence of God’s time. It is uruzite.
If someone tries to pinpoint the end of the world on a certain date, for example someone says it will be on the year May 15, 2020, then they are inaccurate. Matthew 24:36 “But that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.” In another word, if someone shows up saying that they know when the world will end, who will that be? That would be God. But people continue to say that they know. As society gets more confused, Satan is able to slip in between the fear and insecurity in us. Because of this, so many families and lives are ruined. Churches were born, do you know where the heresies came from? From eschatology. This is the way Satan deceives. This is the evident way Satan deceives.
For example, I have a daughter but it is time for her to go to school, but she will not wake up. So what do I do? I say, Child wake up! It is time to wake up! It is time.
But what if she is still asleep? What do I do? I will count to 10 and if you are still not awake, i will not give you allowance and you can not meet up with your friends! But if I count 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 what will happen? Who will feel more anxious? It would be me. I will start to count again from 9, 9 ½, 9 ¾… Everyone as the ending of the world comes near, who will start to feel more anxious? God will be the one who feels more anxious. The one who feels more love will feel more anxious. So everyone, the truth of time for the ending of the world is “ Our Father’s love’s time.” It is the time inside our Father’s heart.
But we know the symptoms. Today, people have crossed the line of sin, and as time goes by, the speed of sinning becomes faster. Today, just like how the book by Saint-Exupery, “Wind, Sand, and Stars,” explains, we live with the door to our soul closed, and the fire died down. We hug a cold stone close to our hearts, and become a stone temple. So what do we have to jump over? Just like Christ had said we have to collapse the stone temple we have built. And so it is time for us to wake up the giant inside all of us. If we want to use Saint-Exupery’s example, then we have to revive the dead “Mozart” inside of us. So it is time for us to spread the good news of Jesus Christ.
Everyone, I hope we all will wake up the Holy Spirit inside us….Even though it may be awkward and difficult, we should use the Holy Spirit inside to embrace others, and through the “Little Mozart” living inside us, you and I will be able to shine a light.
