One might think and behave sometimes romantically, and at other times rationally.
Of course, you can see those who are determined in their belief and behavior and articulate them. Nonetheless, even those people could be either romanticists or rationalists, as needed.
In this respect, I guess the question in the article involves a dichotomy.
A man, for example, might be a romanticist who treats his girlfriend with beautiful flowers and nice dinner regardless of the cost. However, the same man might also be a rationalist who calculates profits and worth at work.
Besides, the article suddenly turns its topic to happiness from the romantic.
Therefore, it is not clear to me whether the topic is 'the difference between romanticism and rationalism' or 'the position of romanticists in society'.
Still, I agree with the point that the mass media emphasize the material happiness and infuse it into people in spite of a research report which tells that accumulation of money makes people even unhappier.
Material things would bring us richness, but not happiness. A lot of money, fame, and prestige cannot make one happy if he or she feels lonely and isolated from the neighborhood.
But the capitalism which is the governing system of today's society, stresses on the material happiness.
And perhaps it is the mass media which instill it into people.
The article concludes by saying that it is the romanticists who feels uncomfortable about the system which puts emphasis on the material, finally citing the statement that 'they isolate themselves on purpose.'
This means that romanticists are the losers and outcasts of the society, which I can hardly agree on.
As I wrote in the beginning, a person can be either a romanticist or a rationalist depending on the situation.
I don't agree with the idea which divides people into romanticists and rationalists, and I don't view romanticists as those who are 'the losers or the outcasts of the society' which in fact include many people who are not romanticists.
이런 나의 관점에서 이 글에서 제목 “Are You Romantic?"
Thus from my point of view, the title "are you romantic?' should be interpreted flexibly, and romanticists should not be regarded necessarily as social losers, as well as rationalists as the adapted and wealthy.
Regardless of what the article intends to say, I don't coincide with it except about possession and happiness.
But I want to add the fact that I might not have fully understood the meaning due to my insufficient capability of reading English.
