[000] Now, the Rest of the Story.
[001] You've heard the story about the avid golfer, who was so
angered and despondent over a particularly bad round that
he broke his putter over his knee and threw his caddie
into the pond, and he returned to the locker room to
slash his wrists.
[002] The poor fellow's standing there bleeding to death when
an unwitting golf buddy comes into the locker room and
says, "Howard, we've got three, we need a fourth one for
tomorrow.
[003] At which point the hapless golfer claps his wrists
together to stop the bleeding and eagerly asks, "What
time?"
[004] That's another lurid golf joke, semi-morbid, painfully
funny because of the real-life seriousness with which
some golfers take their game.
[005] Oh, right, did you hear the one about the famous woman
golfer who was so intent on maintaining her skill that
she was back on the course an hour after learning that
her husband had been murdered?
[006] No, this is not a joke.
[007] But this is the rest of the story.
[008] Easily ranking among the most avid, determined and
skillful golfers of all time was a woman named Mary, Mary
Stuart.
[009] Her athletic interests were many including hunting and
horseback riding, but of all of the outdoor activities
she might have chosen as her favorite, the one to which
she was undeniably committed was golf.
[010] She was unique in that her playing was on a par with most
of her contemporaries, male and female.
[011] But there was also a conflict of interests in Mary's
life, a bothersome something which threatened to distract
her from her all important game and that was her job.
[012] That's right. As well as being an expert golfer, Mary had
a job on the side and there were two responsibilities:
her indoor profession and the sport she loved.
[013] They seemed always to be struggling for priority.
[014] Naturally, there were those men and women who recoiled at
the idea of a woman, any woman, no matter how talented,
playing golf.
[015] These were Mary's critics, the ones who stood by
patiently waiting for an inconsistency or an impropriety
in the young woman's life so that she might be shamed
into forever leaving the game of golf to man.
[016] Well, one day, Mary's critics got their wish, for
immediately after learning of her husband's murder, it is
said that Mary Stuart was back on the course, whacking
away at that little white ball.
[017] But even those who were reticent to forgive her, those
who now unabashedly assailed her for her callous and
unladylike obsession with golf, could not dissuade Mary
Stuart.
[018] She continued to play, eventually making her mark on that
sport not only as a celebrated woman golfer but as the
first celebrated woman golfer.
[019] And the young lad who carried her clubs was a military
cadet.
[020] I said, the young lad who carried her clubs was a
military cadet.
[021] And thus the term "caddie," caddie is traced back to her.
[022] The woman who opened the door for generations of
respected woman golfers, the woman whose passion for the
sport was so great that even her husband's murder could
not keep her off the course, nor could her indoor job.
[023] Ha ha, you are ahead of me, aren't you?
[024] The Queen of Scotland, Mary Stuart.
[025] Mary, the Queen of Scots.
[026] And now you know the rest of the story.

[000] 이제 the Rest of the Story입니다.
[007] 그러나, 이것이 the rest of the story입니다.
[026] 이제야 당신은 the rest of the story를 알고 계십니다.
