Hi!
It’s Ryna with many many hobbies and my wallet shall be found.
Or not. I don’t know. But my the b membership card is in there! I need to find it. Also, the wallet is custom made to look like a book and it’s big enough that it shouldn’t be lost that easily. I still think it’s somewhere in my house or my car. I just haven’t found it yet after a week. I traced back everywhere I went but no luck. I’ll have to get a new driver’s license if I can’t find it.
Aaaanyway
About the sbs show, you guys did amazingly with the performance. I was so annoyed at the camerawork though. Turns out a lot of people were too.
You guys are going with the Matrix theme again which I love. But now that you guys have done that more than once, would you consider exploring other concepts/themes done by the Wachowski sisters? You know where I’m going with this, I assume. lol
Let’s explore Sense8! Let’s explore Cloud Atlas! Let’s explore Speed Racer even!
I know Jupiter Ascending was a flop, but I actually like it. I like the scene where she had to go through hoops to get the paperwork to claim her planets. Why does that kinda feel so real?
But, the whole thing about “harvesting a planet” feels like such a good metaphor. If you haven’t watched it, sorry, but I’m about to spoil it. I do think that the film could have been done better. The subject was so fascinating and it’s an accurate representation of a billionaire irl. The royalties in the movie were killing a whole planet just so they could bathe in the thing they harvested to keep themselves young and that’s all the human lives they killed were to them. It’s such a good parallel to billionaires flying their private jets everywhere as they please emitting more carbon in a week than a village of normal people would in their whole lifetime. I thought that was such an interesting thing to put in there, but it was overpowered by what they thought would sell the movie that it wasn’t explored a little more. Ok so now I’m just ranting about the movie.
Do you need something random to read? I’ve been debating whether or not to geek out to you here one more time before the year ends because I don’t know if it’ll be of interest to you or not.
I’ll just put the geek out portion into a blockquote, so you can skip the whole thing by scrolling past the blockquote. Feel free to skip, seriously.
Here we go.
I’ve been listening to only Bastille for almost a week. (Before that, it was tbz day and night tho.) I listened to them and was reminded of how much I love their music.
Since we were on the subject of Matrix and the Wachowskis earlier, let’s look at Doom Days.
There’s a part about choosing the blue pill in the lyrics. The concept for this album is so cool too. They said the concept for the album is ‘apocalyptic house party’. Basically, they’re the music you listen to at a house party while there’s an apocalypse happening outside. They know that there are horrible things happening outside but they choose to take the blue pill and stay in denial, partying away for the night. Their later albums are more synth-pop than their earlier ones, which were more alternative/rock ??? idk.
Gosh, I love the lyrics. I think I said once that finding book/movie references in their lyrics is like a treasure hunt to me. This song, though, is a treasure trove. A couple of seconds into the song and we’re talking about Jonestown already?? Followed by a Dorian Gray reference?
I also love the fact that he referred to his phone as “my scrolling horror show” because that’s what it sometimes is to me. There were many many days this year (earlier this week even) that my phone was the horror show I couldn’t seem to stop scrolling and watching.
I know you’re a fan of A24, but I don’t know if you’ve watched Good Time yet. If you haven’t, please do. It’s such a good time, an anxiety-filled good time. The whole thing is just a mess snowballing, but it’s so entertaining.
Yeah, this mv was inspired by that movie.
And I know you like horror films, but what about detective kinda themes?
I love this music video. How could something so depressing be so delicious to consume? I don’t understand.
I love the story behind this song too! They mashed up the Rhythm of the Night and Rhythm Is a Dancer because they misremembered and thought these were the same song, so they made them into the same song! Problem solved. That’s the whole story.
The rhythm of the drum in the last chorus is sooo good too.
I’m trying to hold back because I don’t think our music tastes are that similar. But I already told you to skip it, if you don’t, it means it’s still interesting to you, so fuck it i’ll talk anyway.
This is such a good music video too!
This was written because Dan’s aunt decided to go through assisted suicide. She was ill for a long time and it was at the point where this was her decision. He wrote this for her.
Oh gosh, while looking for videos of songs to post here, I saw a video with my face in it. I totally forgot they put that in there! It’s a video compilation of their fans talking about their favorite Christmas movies. My video made it into Bastille youtube channel. It’s kinda embarrassing considering I was sick at the time, went to bed forgetting to film it, and woke up with about 30 minutes before the deadline, so had to film it right away with no makeup on with my face all puffy from a nap. And now it’s there for anybody to see. Lovely. Love it. Best. I’m fine. I’m ok. gwenchana.
Moving on.
I love the way the music comes in this song. Also, "stop the world. I wanna get off"?? Love that line!
To me, their music is the type of music fit for closing your eyes and blasting it on headphones. It’s like a wave that you let hit and take you afloat.
I think Escape (yes tbz) does that to you too, but instead of a wave, it’s a calmer ocean at night or when you’re floating in a swimming pool with your eyes closed, your ears underwater.
I’m trying to think of their songs that you might like, but I really can’t guess. I don’t know you like that. But, I can tell you which songs featured things you said you liked.
Like, I know that Flaws is in 6/8, but I wouldn’t know how to tell which song is 6/8 if I hadn’t seen the sheet music. You might have to teach us how to count it.
Also, I can tell you that their songs from their 2nd album are rock based, but they managed to turn them to be played by an orchestra, like this;
It’s their performance at Elbphilharmonie. It was broadcasted live and you bet I stayed up all night and until 5 am to watch the whole thing. There are so many songs in the reorchestrated version I want you to hear.
I’ll never run out of things I want to say about them, but I’ll stop here for now. I’ll just randomly bring them up in future letters. It’s just that I found them in 2013 and it’ll be 2024 in a few days. Surreal how fresh my appreciation/admiration for their music still is. Can’t wait to say that about you years from now.🫶
So, I’m still waiting for you to post your artwork on ig. I said that on bubble too but I’m reminding you again because I’m really looking forward to it.
Will you be disappointed if you scroll all the way down here and there’s nothing more to read? It’s 2 am right now and I’ve been sleepy since 10.
I’ll be back one more time before the year ends, while I’m still THE B on fancafe. I’ll be kicked to regular member after the New Year. It makes no difference but it kinda does, emotionally.
Hope you’re having a fun time at work. (Sad you don’t get days off during the New Year, but glad since it means I get to see you guys on tv)
Don’t get sick or injured!
Love you (strictly platonically),
Ryna x
P.S. can’t wait for more Kevin’s voice in 2024!
