so we’re off to a great start tbh, i’m like, what, a couple weeks in? and i’m ready to take the first final? academic WEAPON
it is fucking freezing. by the way.
got me fucked up for real how did i exist here for so long. it’s brutal man. my step dad gave me his old heated blanket and LEMME TELL YOU— THAT SHIT IS A GAME CHANGER. IT IS SO NICE LOL but it’s also bad bc it makes me not want to get out of bed in the morning. honestly it got cold in florida too, the cold down there is different though - since it was so humid when it got below like 50 it cut Right through you.
also was nobody going to tell me about quizlet?? it is god, where was this when i was in school. (probably existed, i just didn’t give a shit about my studies).
SHOCKINGLY. i feel very confident on dispensing terms. weirdly enough, now i’m struggling with anatomy. law of equivilent exchange i suppose.
some of these i do not remember reading at all. like trichiasis is turning in of the eyelashes. i cheated and looked it up, i kinda guessed from the “trich-“ being in the word but i wanted to be sure because i don’t remember that being in the text. i have trichiasis, my nasal lashes point inwards (and often stab me in the eye)
corneal bedewing, i know for a fucking FACT i said something about this in one of these letters and now i cannot remember oh my god. DEATH OF THE EPITHELIAL CELLS YES I TALKED ABT THIS im doing multiple choice only bc that’s how the exams are gonna be so i’m just practicing IM SO SMART THANK GOD
dicoris is two pupils - it’s SUPER fucking cool, i’d show a picture but i like you. i know people get grossed out by eye stuff, *I* personally don’t and never really have- some things give me the ick a little, like infections and ulcers, but other than that things like. seeing people touch their eye, that doesn’t really freak me out. my best friend haleya HATES it LOL i offered to show her a video of me taking my contacts out (i filmed it for my other friend who was curious bc i was using my phone as a mirror to get them out anyways) and she was like “ABSOLUTELY no but thanks anyways”. maybe it’s because i’ve been working in optics for nearly a year (that is fucking crazy btw) but it doesn’t really faze me.
wow sorry i’m chatty today LOL. happy to have a day off i guess.
me for real 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼
omg abduction and adduction ONCE AGAIN DO NOT FUCKING REMEMBER WHICH IS WHICH I HATE IT. turning OUT from the median line. is. to adduct. ab is inward. hold on lemme look fuck my life.
ITS ABDUCTION, FUCK ME, I’M NEVER GOING TO FUCKING REMEMBER JESUS CHRIST. need to beat that into my brain oh my god.
“malposition of displacement of a part” took me 5 tries to figure it out but it’s ectopia - like an ectopic pregnancy. i’ll just remember it like that
i feel fairly confident that if i had to take this chapter exam literally right now i would get a pretty decent score. but i want a Perfect score so i will continue to study. i think as i get older my pride gets bigger- like i have to prove myself or something. i don’t think anybody is expecting to me to get 100% on absolutely everything- only I’m expecting that of myself. but it makes me work harder so maybe that’s a good thing.
“particles in the vitreous moving through the visual field” i know these as floaters but it wants the real name uh oh. did it give me the real name????
muscae volitantes. it sure did. kind of like mucus floating around, ok that’s how i’ll remember it
i do have to take a step outside of myself and recognize that it is actually impressive how much i know in such a short amount of time. i’m Very VERY critical of myself, i’m incredibly hard on myself about absolutely everything and i have borderline unattainable standards for myself, but objectively it is kind of amazing how much i’ve learned in my short time working in optics. and how much i can actually apply - Knowing things is different from Applying it in an actual setting, and i’m able to Apply the things that i’ve learned at work (i.e. being able to correctly guess certain conditions and such at work). again, i must state, legally i can’t diagnose, i’m not a doctor, but i’m getting pretty damn good at identifying certain conditions and diseases at my job. the doctor i work for is super cool with me taking guesses too, he’ll ask me what i think of a retinal image and lets me take a stab at what i think is going on. or lets me listen to a chief complaint from a patient and allows me to guess at what i think the solution might be (prime example: patient comes in with complaint of eye strain and “pulling” when reading with their glasses on, pt is 45 years of age- he’ll ask me what i think the diagnosis might be and what we can do to solve that). it’s really really really fun for me. i like being able to problem solve and use my brain in a way that actually Helps people
oh my god chalazion, i remember thinking that this is a weird word. i believe it’s drooping of the upper lid .. no that ptosis. inflammation of the meibomian gland?? let’s find out together.
INFLAMMATION OF THE MEIBOMIAN GLAND, BOOM I’M AMAZING. i’m checking my work with my textbook btw - i’m answering with what i think it is first, and then going and double checking to reinforce the information. is that how you study?? maybe it is idk. i’m not good at studying i just b vibing. i do remember this, i remember DISTINCTLY being like “this is going to trip me up” because it doesn’t have the normal “-itis” at the end, like every other word pertaining to inflammation has. well now it won’t trip me up because i will think of this entire exchange LMAO
AH HAH, OPERATION BY WHICH THE CRYSTALLINE LENS IS DISPLACED OUT OF THE LINE OF VISION, IT’S COUCHING, SHOW THE PICTURE OF THE MEME
I KNEW I WASN’T WASTING MY TIME LMFAO
“less common yet normal condition where the principal focal point of the refracting system of the eye lies exactly in the plane of the retina” emmetropia, lucky bastards. every time i refract someone at work and they have No sphere and No cylinder i’m always beyond amazed. like you can just wake up and See without needing to put on glasses or shove something into your eye, what’s that like
vertical streaks of pigment on corneal endothelium .. fuck doc JUST quizzed me on this too.. krukenburg’s spindle?? that sounds correct but lemme check
ok yes that is it PHEW‼️ i was bout to be embarassed he asked me about that like 4 days ago LMAO
abnormal inward displacement of the eyeball.. i don’t remember reading about this one , but distended supraorbital fossa Sounds correct.
well. it’s not chemosis i know that. and it’s definitely not blepharospasm. OH just kidding. endopthalmos. i knew that. idiot.
synechia .. that sounds both familiar and Not familiar. both can apparently be true at the same time. … wtf it is god i really feel like i know this.. adhesions of the iris to the cornea or lens????
AH HA I WAS RIGHT I KNEW IT
coloboma i literally JUST fucking looked at this emma-elayne use your brain. come on brain, think of things. come on brain, be so smart.
it’s portion of the eye media that’s missing btw. i totally knew that FUCK
dyschromatope, i’m gonna sound it out ready
dys- : something not functioning right
chroma- : color
-tope: this makes it a noun idk how else to describe it lol
therefore, it is one having imperfect discrimination of colors, final answer
(i was right btw)
keratic precipitates .. well keratic refers to the cornea. so .. and it’s not inflammation bc that’s keratitis .. therefore.. it is pigment deposits on the corneal endothelium.
AND I WAS RIGHT see what happens when you use your BRAIN for once emma JESUS
hypopyon is another one i literally just looked up and now i can’t remember. hypo means Down so. pus in the anterior chamber?? i think that’s wrong but it’s definitely not angle or degeneration so final aswer
I WAS RIGHT ew yucky! ok i’ll try and remember that
epiphoria i believe is unequal pupil size. because epi generally means opposite ???? (<- this is totally incorrect btw)
it’s excess tearing GOD i KNEW that. i’m confusing myself. gettin ahead of myself yikes
HIPPUS IS CONTINUAL DILATION AND CONSTRICTION OF THE PUPIL I GOT THAT WRONG WHEN I WAS DOING QUICK REVIEW AT LIKE 6AM I GOT IT NOW
deturgescence i know for a FACT i said smthn about this. state of dehydration that allows the cornea to remain transparent. god i’m so smart
deviation of the eye not corrected by fusion .. i believe is heterotropia but asthenopia also sounds correct.
NOPE asthenopia is eye fatigue. i knew that. mayb that’s why that word sounded mad familiar. it is heterotropia
congestion of the blood vessels.. i believe is hyperemia but edema also sounds right .. no edema is fluid build up. hyperemia final answer i’m goin w it
I GOT A 97 ON THE PRACTICE EXAM LETS FUCKIN GOOOOOO wait what did i get wrong????
blepharedema ok i was being stupid, i said it was inflammation, it’s collection of fluid
ELEVATION OF OPTIC DISC IS PAPILLEDEMA FUCK that one i genuinely didn’t know
dacryocanaliculitis i’ve gotten wrong every single time i’ve accepted that i don’t know this LOL. THE WORD IS TOO BIG IT’S CONFUSING FOR MY TINY BRAIN OK
infection of the lid glands is hordeolum. that i actually forgot ok i’ll own that
removal of contents of orbit and lids is exenteration, that i also just didn’t know
HEY MAN, ONLY GETTING 5 OUT OF 170 QUESTIONS RIGHT, THAT’S PRETTY FUCKIN GOOD OK I THINK I DID WELL. and i didn’t cheat! i did use my textbook but i made sure i answered first before i double checked my work and i was mostly right!! that’s not too shabby!!
i very quickly took a dispensing practice test and got 100%, that one i feel fairly confident with honestly. it’s just So much information it’s making my head spin lol. but i feel pretty good about it all things considered.
this letter is so boring LOL I’M SORRY i’m just gearing up to take this chapter test probably in the next week or so - i’m antsy to move on to the next textbook i wanna know more. i feel like i could take it tomorrow and do really well .. tbh that’s an option for me, i know my sponsor is working (she has to proctor me) and it’s gonna be pretty dead all day so maybe i’ll be able to do that ! but i think i have to actually request the exam first .. lemme look into that
it gets sent right to my sponsor’s email. u know what i’m feelin ballsy maybe i’ll ask to take the test tomorrow. my sponsor said she’ll allow me to use my notes but i’m too proud to do that LMAOOO. if i end up doing that i’ll come back and update you with how i do. i’ve had chapter 1 for about a month so that’s more than enough time i think
ok i requested the chapter exam. so HOPEFULLY tomorrow i’ll be able to take it. i will let you know! i hope i can get the results immediately - i wonder if i’ll have to mail in the test though /: that would be lame i want instant feedback.
ok i’m gonna go now, i’m just gonna keep doing review and shit. BYE sorry this one was super boring - i’m jusy antsy to get new information, i wanna move ON
