Hii kev ♡
how’s our moonlight boy doinng? hope you had a good onee, your days might just be looking the same at this point but I do wish for you to at least enjoy yourself enough to keep up with that pace, take great care of yourself and go get that good nights sleep <3
Thanks for all the work Kevin ♡
As for mee, I was leaving space for droplets to fall out of my eyes just now lmao, I finished watching that one art documentary a second ago and couldn’t help but feel full, it was a very engaging piece in so many levels, the human brain gets you through it sometimes, art is such a beautiful medium between reality and what we conceive as representation of more complex concepts, the weight that expression holds is way too powerful for my onion filled eyeballs lmao
Sky Ladder is the name of the documentary, referring to the most challenging piece its artist has ever worked on, Cai Guo-Qiang
I remember hearing about those explosions events and his works around fireworks without really paying attention to it but as I begun looking for artists I once knew or eventually stumbled upon for the purpose of sharing them with you, I found my way right back to him as I read through that one article on Sky Ladder, it said that there was a documentary on it on Netflix so I told myself I’d first watch it and then let you know about it
It took time lmao, but here we are, I was so focused and even more stunned all the way it went by too fast pls
He is a contemporary artist best known for his massive installations, the use of gunpowder as an added material onto his drawings, making it his very own signature through the years as he began working around explosion events as well
Regarding the use of gunpowder, he actually grew to experience the cultural revolution in China as a kid, basically growing with the understanding of explosives which he eventually incorporated into his paintings
I feel like he has just turned every little trauma that he or people might’ve gone through into an opportunity for expression, finding beauty in it’s representation through allegories and that’s crazy beautiful to witness when you actually get a ride through the very meaning behind each of his works
When it comes to using it for drawings, they would scatter gunpowder around on paper, place rice paper and cardboard onto it and light it up so that it limits the amount of oxygen let out by gunpowder, serving as a way to not burn the drawing
That was the first thought that went through my mind when they took us through how he started using it on paper, ofc it would burn, but science saves it all I guess, that’s crazyy
It’s the way he never stopped himself from finding a way to light it up on paper until the day it would actually stop burning, that’s a life lesson right here lmao
In regard to his explosion events, I couldn’t help but question its environmental impact as he himself mentioned paying special attention to it, turns out he uses environmental friendly materials, bio degradable powder for these events
The documentary is honestly really worth the watch, it’s amazing seeing his works and approach to art develop throughout his career, the fact that anything can be turned into art if well managed is mind blowing
Coming back to Sky Ladder, he explained it as a way for him to initiate this one connection between the earth and outer space, having the Bible as one of his inspirations behind it, he basically used rungs made out of stainless steel and bamboo poles placed in the form of a ladder to which he would attach explosives on both sides, they would be connected to a hot air balloon which would allow the ladder to look up straight at the sky, sizing up to half a kilometer
That’s lowkey very impressive seeing it, he made the impossible possible after 21years of actively trying to make it happen pls
There’s this one quote they said he would always stick by at the beginning of the documentary, “there’s no failure or success in art”, the constant challenging mindset that shines through these words just makes it even more admirable looking at his determination to walk through the end of each projects he instigated, I just got an explosion of enthusiasm and daze right before my eyes we’re sleeping stunned tonight lmao
There’s the whole assembling of art and politics that made it through in the documentary as well, as he notably worked for the Olympics in China, which was just as interesting, as we saw him frustrated as he ended up in a position where he found his art restrained
It just got me pondering on this very aspect as not everyone gets to be as independent and free in exhibiting art, yet the persistence and assurance it takes to break through it and tirelessly work your way to that one end wish should really be applauded
You know I just really do associate you with art in all its forms, I personally do believe with all due respect that you are a predominant artist in the way that you have reached a certain level of knowledge in each artistic medium you’ve left yourself to, that’s something that I could speak about for hours, you already did hear me on that and you will just as often but, your sensibility has struck me more than once and I do like to think of you as that one accomplished artist when it’s about the display of actual skills in artistic creation
I just feel like getting such perspectives of actual artists put upfront can draw much more attention to the whole process that goes behind creating in itself, and you just can’t come out of this without actually turning a bit more sensitive to art, see? it’s my time to shine and make everything about you once again lmao
Gotta remind you how special you are, we’re here for that, and the more I take strolls through art the more I realize how outstanding and estimable your link to it is, it’s not as often where you get to look at someone and be 100% unshakable when it comes to recognizing they belong in that one field, we all have different interests and might not always end up where we first painted ourselves in, but your interests are literally all linked up together
It makes sense for you to do what you do and I just really like the idea that, in the big picture, there’s endless possibilities for you to conduct yourself towards each interests of yours without necessarily put aside being an idol, as it literally englobes it all
Knowing you actively working to the expression of each of them has been a very valuable aspect we can only praise you for as your fans and I do hope you can keep in mind we’re more than aware of what it takes for you to make it through it all, just as easy as it is to let go of purpose along the way, I do wish for you to hold on tight to what genuinely drives you
That’s how much we appreciate your inputs and how big of a respect we hold for the ability you have to make your works your own
You just know you’re good when anyone can spot you in a sea of people, you’re giving disco ball lmao (found a pleated disco ball skirt and my concert fit is compromised now what do we do-)
I have so much respect for you my Kevin, I feel like it might be something you all would like to especially hear these days as you’re putting it all into shaping that one big project for us to appreciate, but no matter how hectic it gets, knowing you conscious of your worth and your individuality is something I’d like to make sure of
It’s easy for me to point out what makes you stand out on a daily but it might not always be the case for you, so get that boost of confidence and go on shining kev <3
He got me all mushy lmao, it’s a blessing to have such artists out there I feel like I just came back from a trip rn
I do know you’re short on time and are probably reading these at unholy hours so leave the quick summary to me lmao, I’ll get into a few of his artworks and will leave you with a few clips below ♡
There’s this one very famous installation of his, “Inopportune: Stage one”, it wasn’t in the documentary but I did want to mention it, it’s a series of cars suspended in the air pierced by blinking neon lights, referring to September 11th, basically portraying exploding cars
Coming back to how he would turn trauma into art, it looked like one big homage to past events which deserves a mention
He has been incorporating animals a lot in his installations as well in order to point out the importance of biodiversity along with how detrimental to the environment our lack of engagement and sensitivity could become
He did put upfront extremely significant issues through each of his works which really gets to you, they just are so massive you can only stop on your track looking at those </3
When it comes to his explosion events, this aspect of having computer chips incorporated into those pixel bursts’ shells which allows the moment of the explosion to be calculated to its very milli second is crazy impressive, there’s so much that goes behind those it’s mind blowing to witness
He has storylines to each of those events as well, he would portray water, blossoming or feelings through allegory once again but all residing in its representation through the use of explosions
There’s this event that took place in Shanghai for the opening of that one exhibition of his called “The ninth wave” they showed in the documentary, he represented Elegy, Rememberance and Consolation, one after the other, it’s too long to send it here but it got me all emotional pls <//3
But Anywayys, that was a very big art focused one this time lmao, thank you my Kevin, I got to jump into a pool of art thanks to these letters, we’re loving our lil writing time, ‘hope it can help you space out just as much as it does for me, I appreciate you ♡
I do wish for us to try and stand by his very quote, art has no success nor failure, and so does each thing we’ll eventually take upon, just as long as we can manage our way to the very end believing enough in our ability to eventually make it through, we’ll get to it~
Sending you the best of luck as always for everything you’re currently working on, you’re doing amazing and we’re right here for you to draw confidence from our words anytime, thank you for your time Kevin ♡
Have a restful night, love you ♡
Please take great care of yourself, stay safe, rest well and I’ll see you in the next one my cherished one🍒♡
