[000] Now, the Rest of the Story.
[001] 1960, Edward Albert Christian wrote his greatest treatise
on the subject on which he had been the unrivaled
international authority for half a hundred years, and for
which we remember him here: men's fashion.
[002] Indeed, through his example, men now felt comfortable
debating and promoting style the elements of which in
many cases Edward had either championed single-handed or
outright invented.
[003] Before he arrived on the men's fashion scene, including
various patterns in the same ensemble was unthinkable.
[004] It was his daring that brought stripes and plaids and
polka dots in mutual proximity.
[005] He also liberated color, for until he proclaimed
otherwise, bold hues were customarily banned from men's
wear.
[006] He also had a flare for proportion.
[007] For example, a man 5' 5'', could almost look tall, he
declared, if his jacket were merely cut higher in the
waist.
[008] And pants cuffs, he practically created them.
[009] Certainly he introduced them to the world of men's
fashion.
[010] Same with zippers in men's trousers.
[011] It's been said that men would still be buttoning if not
for his penchant for the practical.
[012] He also encouraged specifics in men's tailoring like more
pockets, or larger pockets, for the convenience of the
individual.
[013] However, the fashion edicts of Edward Albert Christian
did not go unchallenged.
[014] Those cuffs, for example, were aggressively denounced by
would-be trend-setters of his day.
[015] His own fashion-conscious father, devoted to tradition,
was said to have been enraged by the addition of turnups,
as he called them, to men's slacks.
[016] And yet, Edward enjoyed support for his ideas in a
company of admiring brothers and one cousin in
particular.
[017] The latter went on to design his own formal wear and so
cleverly that the wearer was able to dress fully in only
a minute's time.
[018] That cousin was Louis Mountbatten, Lord Louis
Mountbatten.
[019] For Mr. Style, Edward Albert Christian, fully, Edward
Albert Christian George Andrew Patrick David, was better
known as the royal beau who abandoned his throne for
love: Edward, Duke of Windsor; for an entire year,
England's King Edward VIII.
[020] Now history records that 6 months almost to the day
following his abdication, the former monarch married
divorcee Wallis Simpson in the Chateau de Cannes in
France.
[021] Only now, in addition to the ultimately romantic gesture
of the 20th century, from this day forward, you will
remember King Edward for mixed patterns, for bold colors,
for deceptive tailoring, and cuffed trousers, and
zippered flies, and the virtual invention of men's
couture.
[022] Of course, of all of the styles for which the Duke of
Windsor ought widely to be credited, best recognized by
far is that particular method of tying a tie.
[023] But guess what?
[024] Not only had the duke nothing whatsoever to do with its
innovation, he never once tied his own tie in that
famous--everywhere manner merely named for him.
[025] For the Duke of Windsor did indeed pioneer and popularize
pants cuffs, and patterns, and zippers, and all the rest,
but the world-renowned Windsor knot? Huh, huh, huh, not!
[026] Now, you know the rest of the story.

[000] 이제, the Rest of the Story입니다.
[026] 이제, 당신은 the rest of the story를 알고 계십니다.
