Over the past few decades, people have
enjoyed doing activities with devoting on their tasks whether they are hard to
achieve or easy to handle. So, it has been argued whether people should have
hobbies that are different from their job or similar to it. Some people might
say that people should have hobbies that have strong connection with their
field in order to do such hobbies easily and meet new people that have similar relationship
about their job, while others might think differently. However, I am strongly
convinced that choosing hobbies which are far away from their job is more
beneficial in terms of being able to get rid of stress and increasing their
social skills. Actually, I have a couple of reasons to strengthen my idea. I
will clearly show and develop them in the next following paragraphs below.
Firstly, people can eliminate their
stress more easily through enjoying hobbies that have less connection with
their job. To be specific, usually, people acquire
stress from their workplace, but doing activities that are related to their job
makes non-sense at all in terms of doubling the pressure that came from their
tasks. Therefore, if they choose to enjoy hobbies that are different from their
work, it will be much more beneficial. This is because they can free themselves
from the pressure and then become refreshed when it is time to go back to their
original tasks. It is true that some people might say that doing such
hobbies will be less efficient because it is hard to get familiar to such hobbies
as they are not related to their job. It is going to not be enjoyable, but
unpleasant. However, doing so will become an experience as it is a new field,
but also, they will be more interested when they get used to such hobbies. To give an example of this, when
I was a high school student, my life was a full of unhappiness. This is because
a competition inside my school was too intense, which means that stress was unavoidable
at that time. There were a lot of tests and quizzes which led me into disastrous
life. However, when I was a freshmen in my school, there was a mid-term test
which I had never experienced before. Not only this, there was a group project
that I had to finish with my friends in my academy school. These were a trigger
for my stress to disturb my high school life. I had no idea how to deal with
the test and the group project together efficiently. When I asked my dad about
this problem, he advised me to do some activities as a refreshment for my life.
So, I decided to read a book as my hobby, but it wasn’t really helpful in terms
of increasing my stress. This is because it was difficult for me to use more
brain other than concentrating on my tasks. Secondly, when I chose to enjoy
video games, it was successful to solve such problems because I could forget what
I had to do. Also, it helped me to more concentrate on my tasks because I became
refreshed thanks to my video games. This shows that it is better to have
hobbies that are different from their job in terms of eliminating stress and refreshing
their mindset.
Secondly, choosing hobbies that have
less connection with their job increases their social skill. This is because as they meet people who have various fields, they
will have an opportunity to talk with them. Through this, they will develop
their communication skill and also, increase their knowledge about different
kinds of fields compared to their own field. Although some people might say
that it is better to improve their social skill by meeting people who have
about the same field because they can understand a topic better, knowing
different kinds of subjects lets you have a deeper relationship with others.
To give an example of
this, currently, my father is a famous cook in my hometown. It is hard to tell
that he doesn’t have an ability to talk with others who are involved in
different fields compared to his. The reason for this is that he is a member of
a tennis community. Thanks to the community, he can meet different types of
people and has chance to have a conversation with them. For example, there was
a historian in the community. While my father was playing tennis, there was a
spare time to know each other. Because he was interested to history, he went to
the historian to have light conversation. However, the ultimate purpose of this
conversation for my father was to increase his knowledge variously. Not only
this, he could meet teachers, scientists and so on, which are far away from his
field. As a result, even though he couldn’t have deep knowledge about such
fields, he could learn, experience, and recognize about different kinds of
fields. So, wherever he goes, thanks to such knowledge, he became a person who
can talk whatever the topic is. This clearly shows that having hobbies
that are different from their job increases their social skill in terms of
learning about other fields.
