안녕하세요 교수님:)
<Ch7. Stress and Intonation>
Q1. 2p/7.2-2 Stress on ult (1)
The examples with weightless penults have [ə] nuclei, and thus are stressed on the final syllable by defalut.
Q2. 3p/7.2-2 Stress on ult (2)
They are stressed on the final syllable despite the fact that they have stressable penults with branching rhymes.
➡️ Adjective의 예시로 obscure랑 obscene가 있는데요, 이 두단어의 발음을 살펴보면 [əbˈskjʊr], [əbˈsiːn]으로 peult가 stressable한게 아니라 penults have [ə] nuclei인데, 그럼 이 두 단어는 예외적인 게 아니라 ‘penults have [ə] nuclei라서 강세가 ult로 옮겨간다라는 규칙(2p/7.2-2 Stress on ult (1))’에 해당하는 거 아닌가요!?!
Q3. 5p/7.4-1 Secondary Stress (2)
● Difference between the primary and the secondary stress
Both syllables (primary and secondary stressed) have prominence, and their difference results from the superimposition of the pitch pattern.
➡️ 이 문장에서 ‘the superimposition of the pitch pattern’(pitch 패턴의 중첩?)이 무슨 말인가요 교수님??
Q4. 6p/7.4-1 Secondary Stress (3)
● Identifying the ones with secondary stress
a. The longest sequence of reduced vowels in an English word is predominantly two.
➡️ ‘The longest sequence of reduced vowels‘이라고 했는데, 아래의 bibliography [bɪ̀.bli.ɑ́.grə.fi]처럼 reduced vowel이 아니라 full vowel일 수 도 있지 않나요??
Q5. 11p/7.8-1 Tonic accent on the last stressed lexical item
교수님! 'The boy gave the book to his teacher'이란 문장에서 his가 grammatical item이라서 강세를 안받는다고 하셨는데, 그럼 his와 같은 grammatical item들은 문장 안이 아니라, 단독으로 단어 자체로 있어도 강세를 안받는 건가요?? his는 발음기호로 [hɪz]인데 단어 자체로만 있으면 강세를 받아야하는 게 아닌가 해서 질문드립니다!
