Central to Tony Hayward's testimony were two themes: that it would be premature to pre-judge the outcome of investigations into the cause of the explosion on the Deepwater Horizon rig; and that as CEO he wasn't directly involved in decisions relating to construction of the ill-fated oil well, or its safety. But his reticence to be drawn into events leading up to the disaster two months ago led to growing frustration on the part of committee members, one of whom accused him of 'stonewalling'.
After the hearing Democratic Congressman Ed Markey told reporters that 'I don't know' was the answer of someone who'd decided to listen to his lawyers rather than account for what went wrong.

A new study has failed to find any conclusive evidence that lifestyle changes can prevent cognitive decline in older adults.
Still, there are good reasons to make positive changes in how we live and what we eat as we age.
Cognitive decline is the loss of ability to learn new skills, or recall words, names, and faces that is most common as we age. To reduce or avoid it, researchers have examined the effect of smoking, diet, brain-challenging games, exercise and other strategies. Researchers at Duke University sifted through more than 160 published studies and found an absence of strong evidence that any of these approaches can make a big difference.

The high point of President Medvedev's stay in the United States will be his visit to Silicon Valley - an area in northern California known for its high-tech companies, venture capitalists and forward-looking entrepreneurs.
Experts, such as Robert Legvold from Columbia University, say Mr. Medvedev is trying to generate interest in his plan to create a Russian Silicon Valley in the suburbs of Moscow known as the Skolkova Innovation Initiative.
"That area of Skolkova, where Skolkova School of Business and Management is located, has a fair amount of acreage. So when Medvedev committed himself to the idea of creating a Silicon Valley, and there were a number of parts, different cities in Russia that vied for its location, it was decided to put it in this park."

The U.N. estimates that adolescent girls, that is, young women between the ages of 10 and 24-account for one-eighth of the world's population. Many of these girls not only work outside their homes, but are the primary source of support for their families. Yet many of them don't enjoy the most basic human rights.
The Girls 20 Summit taking place this week in Toronto, Canada, invited 20 young women from each of the G-20 member countries to discuss the most pressing challenges facing young women today. The summit focuses on the United Nations Millennium Development Goals of ending poverty, improving access to health care, and providing universal primary school education.

After visiting Silicon Valley, President Medvedev comes to Washington for a brief summit with President Barack Obama.
Experts such as David Kramer say relations between the two countries are good. "The Obama administration touts the U.S.-Russian relationship as one of its major foreign policy successes. I wonder whether that says more about the rest of its foreign policy than about the U.S.-Russian relationship. But having said that, relations are certainly better than they were at the end of 2008, when there were significant tensions between Moscow and Washington in the aftermath of the Russia-Georgia war. And so the tone and environment are much better than they were."

Anwar Basunbul is the 19-year-old representative from Saudi Arabia, where women face significant restrictions of movement and are segregated from the world of men. Basunbul says that the leadership of her country has not failed women; on the contrary, she believes that Saudi women have failed to ask for what they want.
Basunbul is most concerned about opportunities for women in the Saudi workforce. "There's a quite good percentage of women who are interested in joining the working field, but there are restrictions on the professions we are allowed to participate.
