Jobless
Sam’s having trouble finding a new job
Cindy How’s the job hunt going?
Sam Not too well. I’ve filed out a ton of applications, but I haven’t even gotten a nibble.
Cindy It’s tough for everyone. The market is really bad so few companies are hiring.
Sam How long do you think the market will be this tight?
Cindy There’s no way of knowing. Until people start spending more, companies aren’t going to want to hire.
Sam But people aren’t going to spend money unless they feel secure in their jobs.
Cindy That’s exactly the problem. Both depend on the other, so unless consumer confidence improves, their jobs will continue to be in danger.
Sam So, I need to go shopping in order to improve the economy.
Cindy Well, it’s not that simplistic, but that’s the main idea. I know you don’t have cash to burn, but there are a lot of people who are being pretty tight-fisted these days.
Sam I don’t blame them. If you don’t know where your next meal is coming from, you’re going to be socking away all you can.
Cindy Like I said, consumer confidence. People don’t have any confidence in the system, so the system is going to continue to stagnate.
Sam I hope things pan out soon. Other wise, I’m in big trouble. I have bills due and I need something to make ends meet.
Cindy If things don’t get brighter soon, I can give you some cash to tide you over.
