<p><span data-ke-size="size18">A few days ago, I studied English with a tutor. The topic was “Konglish? English!”</span></p><p> </p><p><span data-ke-size="size18">I know we use Konglish when we can't be replaced by proper Korean, it is just Koreanized. For example, there are handle, back mirror, handphone, one plus one, and so on. Sometimes it is exported back, such as "home service." And fighting!, which we use a lot, is also said by foreigners "hwaiting!" with the same meaning.</span></p><p> </p><p><span data-ke-size="size18">But generally, when I hear Konglish, I understand almost everything, but there is a word that I really can't understand, so if anyone knows, I am posting it here to find an answer. I can explain how people use it, but I don’t know why, since when we used it. Since the tutor wanted to know why Koreans use the word, I roughly explained what I thought. 영어 “컨센트릭 플러그”(영어: concentric plug, /kənˈsɛntrɪk plʌg/)를 줄인 일본어 “콘센토”(일본어: コンセント)가 한국에 들어온 말이다. 영어권에서는 “아웃렛”(영어: electrical outlet), “소켓”(영어: wall socket) 따위로 부른다.' - 위키백과, 우리 모두의 백과사전.
Because the words of Konglish came thru Japanese and were thought as English, we have been using them as correct English expression..
In the other hand, some of Konglish were accepted by some of English countries as only newly coined word based on popularity but not original English, I think....
And '아르바이트' we are saying is 'part time work' in English and came from German.
그밖에, 밴드(band) 우리는 1회용 반창고의 의미로 통용되지만 영어의 "band" 는 음악을 연주하는 그룹이고 반창고는 bandage 또는 band-aid 라고 합니다.
또한 반으로 접을 수 있는 휴대폰은 폴더폰 (folder phone) 이 아니고 flip phone 이라고 합니다. 의미상으로 “folder” 가 맞는 것 같지만 원어민은 사용하지 않는 표현이라고 합니다. folder 는 서류 보관철이나 컴퓨터에서 파일을 모아 놓은 곳을 가리킵니다… 열공 !! ..
