Anti Conditioner Blows Warm Air
Basic Checks and Information
1. Check All Drive Belts - The air conditioner utilizes a drive belt that supplies power to rotate the compressor, which is basically a pump. The belt transfers energy from the engine to the compressor, if it fails the compressor has is left with nothing to drive it. Inspect and replace as needed to restore proper operation. If belt is in tact proceed to the next step.
2. Check Air Conditioner Compressor Clutch Engagement - With the air conditioner turned "on" and the engine at idle inspect the clutch at the front of the compressor, is it turning? "engaged" if so, the system has enough refrigerant to turn the system on via a pressure switch, and probably just a low state of charge is the problem and a ac recharge kit is needed. If the compressor clutch is not turning proceed to next step.
3. Inspect for a Refrigerant Leaks - Test system for static pressure charge, if the system has a leak there is not enough pressure in the system to connect the circuit through a pressure switch that allows the system to run. Attach an ac gauge to the low side of the system and check the state of charge (engine off), depending on outside temperature it should be between 50 psi and 80 psi. (cold and hot). If the system is very low or empty there is a leak somewhere in the system. The air conditioner system is designed to run with oil suspended in the refrigerant to lubricate the system. Check for oily residue outside the system by inspecting all hoses, compressor, condenser, evaporator or receiver drier and replace any component that has failed. NOTE: Before you replace any a/c component you must evacuate the a/c system of any remaining refrigerant. Replace parts as required, vacuum down and recharge system with an ac recharge kit.

4. Inspect Fuses - Check under dash panel and in the under hood power distribution center. Replace failed fuses as needed, recheck system. If the new fuse fails when reinstalled a short circuit is present and needs to be diagnosed with a wiring schematic, trace wires to find the short, repair and recheck system.
5. Check Temperature Control Vents - The vents inside your car are controlled by a cable, electrical servo or vacuum servo. If the vent door is not functioning properly it will cause warm air from the heater to exit the vents. To check this start the car and let the engine idle, next turn the blower motor speed on low, switch the temperature control from warm to cold and listen close to the vents. You should hear the door move inside the heater box as it swings from open to close. If not, insect for a vacuum leak or a shorted motor in the servo, if you can hear the door moving inside the heater plenum.
NOTE: Regular Air Conditioner Maintenance Service your a/c system every two years. Turn on your air conditioner system periodically to keep in system properly oiled in the winter time. An air conditioner service removes all moisture from the system by creating a vacuum, this vacuum should be held for at least 30 minuets to ensure all moisture has been removed. Internal system moisture is one of the leading cause of a/c system operation failure.
