A 62-YEAR-OLD man was left with serious head injuries after he was bashed with a baseball bat in a robbery at a Melbourne newsagency early today.
The man was working alone at the newsagency in Station Street, Fairfield, when he was attacked by two men armed with a baseball bat and hand gun just before 6am (AEST) today, police said.
"They set upon the man and bashed him and then they've taken what cash they could out of the till and fled,'' police spokeswoman Sheree Argento said.
The man was taken to the Austin Hospital with serious injuries.
"We took him to the Austin. He had a wound to the head and he was in a stable condition when we got him to hospital,'' Metropolitan Ambulance Service spokesman Ray Rowe said
