PARTIES will be shut down and musicians shut up under new noise laws planned by the NSW government.
Also, motorists with faulty car alarms will be fined heavily.
The proposed changes to the Noise Control Regulation will go on public display today, the Daily Telegraph reports.
It's the first time in five years the laws have been altered.
Under the proposal, stereos or or musical instruments will be deemed offensive if they can be heard next door in a habitable room.
Police will respond to loud music after 10pm on weekdays, and weekend parties that continue after midnight will also be shut down.
Musicians who play their instruments too loudly after 10pm on weekdays could face a $200 on-the-spot fine.
The owners of faulty car alarms that sound for more than four hours will face fines up to $600.
Cars with noisy mufflers will be specifically targeted, boat owners will also have to “keep it down” when testing motors.
Recent figures show about 23 calls a day are made to the Government's noise complaint hotline, the Daily Telegraph reports.
Loud cars and noise from air-conditioning pumps are the reasons for most complaints.
