이번주에는 원래 Doo형님께서 올리시는 것 같은데, 바쁘신가 봐요. 괜한 오지랖일지도 모르겠지만, 제가 대신 올립니다.
Topic1. Fast-Food Workers Across the Country Demand Higher Wages
Across America tonight, a lot of people at the drive-thru window at your favorite fast food restaurant are asking the question: “What is a fair living wage?” People on minimum wage jobs went on strike today. They now earn 7 dollars and 25 cents an hour. They are asking for twice that - 15 dollars. ABC’s Chief Business and Economics Correspondent Rebecca Jarvis.
Outrage in Chicago, in Indianapolis and Los Angeles today. Employees at 1,000 fast food restaurants in 50 cities walking out of work and onto picket lines, even forcing some to shut down.
Interviewee: My whole household of 7 people is surviving on my eight dollars an hour. So, we're barely holding our head over water. Demanding the minimum wage more than doubles from $7.25 an hour to $15. So, is it possible? For a burger off the dollar menu, McDonald's pays about 34 cents for the cost of food, 23 cents in rent, 25 cents goes to hourly workers, leaving about 18 cents of profit. Analysts say, even if McDonald's wanted to, it couldn't afford to pay employees double without raising prices. How much higher would prices go? About 25 percent. So that dollar menu item would tick up to about $1.25. McDonald’s says, it aims to offer competitive pay and benefits to our employees. But that's hard for this working mom to swallow.

Topic2. 'Fat Letters' Have Young Kids Worried About Their Weight
Students call them fat letters – the reports that a growing number of schools are sending home to parents, indicating whether kids are making their grade when it comes to BMI, that’s the body mass index. So, are they hurting more than they're helping? ABC's Bianna Golodryga takes a closer look.
Middle schooler, Lucy Williams, has multiple report cards to worry about - the one concerning her academic grades; and this one, concerning her weight. The “fitnessgram” Lucy recently received from her school is part of a growing initiative to track student’s body mass indexes or BMIs. Schools in 19 states from Arkansas to Illinois take part measuring students at annual weigh-ins, then sending reports home to parents, indicating whether a child is in the Green: healthy zone, or the Red: danger zone.
Pediatricians say BMI readings are helpful in combating childhood obesity.
Doctor: Right now, it's the best measurement that we have to determine whether a child's weight is healthy or unhealthy. But eating disorder experts worry the readings do more harm than good.
Interviewee: I would like to see BMI testing in schools banned. I’m for those who are already insecure about their weight. Ah, these tests can potentially trigger an eating disorder.
More than 40% of 9 and 10 year-old girls have already been on a diet. And as many as 60% of all 6 to 12-year-olds are worried about their weight.
