Five-day School Week to Expand
Primary and secondary school students across the nation may have more no school Saturdays from the next year.
The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology announced plans to consider expanding five-day school week, starting from the next year.
Currently, students can only take every second and fourth Saturdays off.
The government’s move reflects the changing trend of the Korean society with most of the companies implementing the five-day work week.
The education ministry will finalize the details of the plan after holding a series of public hearings and implement the five-day school week system on a trial basis in the latter half of the year, before fully implementing the system the next year.
The five-day work week can help teachers have more time to prepare for better lessons as well as lessening the study burden for students, according to the Korean Federation of Teacher’s Association.
