The way to learn from Christ Jesus
Phil.3:7-7“But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ.
During Dec. 1987, as I visited church members for the first time, a 60’s woman bowed to me with traditional way. Then I was 30’s, so I had to bow with the same way. The good stock of family regards the manners as an important thing. However, the more important thing is the true self hidden behind manners. For good stock of family, social status, ability, good manner are not our true personality.
Paul the apostle was proud of his family, his learning of law, his zeal for Judaism. After he knew Jesus, he counted all these as rubbish, because such mind as likes to be proud of or to envy the things which are belonged to the world hinders to learn from Christ. In order to learn from Jesus, we have to expose ourselves as the naked state without any covering in the presence of God.
People do not like to become loser. Behind this thought, there is a hidden competitive instinct. We can not be winner in all competition. We will be winner one thing but loser another thing. Therefore everyone has the inferior complex of one’s own. Most of all the vanity, pride, pain, anger result from the hidden inferior complex.
In the lowest place without any such pride as stock of family or the graduation of school or the social status, giving up in competition with the world some members lived for farming their own native soil for their own life long without leaving their home village. They did not have the pride or the inferior complex to abandon. Like a pure babe, they always accepted me with hospitality with pure mind without any hypocrisy. Such fellowship between Christians became the past relics which are not easy to experience any more.
Paul the apostle had confidence in the flesh more than anyone else. “I circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of the Hebrews; concerinig the law, a Pharisee; concerning zeal, persecuting the church; concerning the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.” Phil.3:5-6 The inferiority complex which secretly occupied in his mind began from the scene of stoning Stephan.
Even though Stephan was going to die by stoning, he kept peace on his face. Saul could not forget his peaceful face. But Saul’s mind, In stead of peace, was full of antagonism and anger about Christians. At that time Saul did not recognize the fact that the anger which was springing up from antagonism was resulted from the inferior complex, which came from his mind that could not possess such peace.
The more we learn and the more we become prudent, the true self is camouflaged and does not exposed outward. In our quiet room, where it is not needed to be conscious of others, we have to exercise ourselves to expose our hidden self before God. It is necessary to bring our pain and grief before Christ who suffered much more pain and grief than we suffered.
Even if humans practice asceticism and discipline can not learn the humility of Christ who humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Only those who have learned from Jesus do not know inferiorty complex and inward trauma. They are not angry of others. They readily take the cross of humiliation and contempt for the glory of the Lord. The pride of self does not exist any more.
“At that time Jesus answered and said, ‘I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes.” Matt.11:25 The way to learn from Jesus Christ depends on the mind of babes which do not know the inferior complex or superior pride. During the life we get every kinds of traum and mental pains. In spite of these damaged emotions, the way to live like the babes who know nothing about pride or complex lies in the mind which considers even the cross of contempt as the glory of oneself for the glory of the Lord. 8.
