Replacement Panel Filters | Momo | ||
Replacement panel filters, I've always been a skeptic about these. Could they really increase bhp by just dropping one of these in the standard air box ? Well the answer is yes, both the K&N and Momo performed well increasing the output by an average of 4 bhp. So for around £40 these are a great alternative to the standard paper filters. They are reusable and last on average for approx 100,000 miles. |
Drilled box with Momo Filter |
This was the shock of the day. The standard Momo filter gave 4bhp when we drilled holes in the air box we got an average of 5.5bhp increase, with one run actually giving us 7bhp. This would be the cheapest option for people on a budget. A Momo or K&N replacement filter will save you money in the long term and drilling holes costs you nothing. |
Before we review the bolt on filters, it has to be said that if its a nice throaty induction roar that your looking for any one of these filters will suffice. They all sound superb, when the MIVEC kicks in.
RACTIVE : Kits & Bits 01472 753711 | K&N 57i |
This is one of the better looking filters, The actual Filter comes in a number of colors including a carbon fiber look-a-like. Unfortunately on the tests this actually lost bhp over the standard filter. Possibly because the air intake can not draw enough air into the MIVEC engine. Replacing the filter with one of the others mentioned here should give better results while still keeping the nice stainless looks. A number of people have put these filters onto a GS`s and say it boosted performance. | K&N Probably "THE" best known producer of after market filters in Britian. That aside, the K&N put up a good fight on the Rollers giving a 7bhp increase. It was a slightly unfair test for this filter as it comes complete with an intricate cold air ducting system to draw cold air form the front of the car. Under road tests it would probably have done better against its rivals. |
ITG : Camskill 01946 694794 | BLITZ : Racelogic 01280 823803 |
A triple-layer polyester foam filter supported by a stainless steel mesh. Not the best looking filter we tested, it would look more at home in a bath than an engine bay. It was a breeze to fit and out performed our expectations giving a massive 8.5 bhp increase. Its cheap price tag of just £66 makes this our
Best Buy Filter ! |
The BLITZ Filter is made from incredibly fine T304 stainless steel. It was by far the best looking filter we tested and very easy to fit. We all expected this to come out tops on the bhp tests, sadly it didn't. However it did perform well giving an 8bhp increase. Unfortunately its hefty price tag of £182.13 drops it to third overall. |
Green | APEXi : Ultimate Performance Autosupply 0115 9127010 |
Well errrr...Its Green. That's what I can say its green ! Hmm ...that's not much of a review ... OK I need to add a little more. This was the cheapest air filter we tested, even cheaper that the replacement panel filters and it just managed to outperformed them. Giving an average of 4.5bhp increase. To be honest unless you've got a green car, get a replacement panel filter. They look better because you cant see them. I apologies to the one person out there who has replayed his FTO this color (someone probably will have !) | This is one sweet looking air filter. Both on and off the car. With its price tag of £176.25 we were expecting great things, similar results to the BLITZ and HKS. Unfortunately it did not perform. It only gave an average of 4.5 bhp increase. Not enough blow for the dough! |
HKS : Ralliart UK 01384 216100 |
HKS, Super Power Flow, nicknamed the "green hairnet" by some. Maybe not after today. It has been "engineered to dramatically reduce inlet restrictions" and boy does it ! On one of the runs this filter gave a whopping 199 bhp Thats 9-10 more than standard. Which makes it our
Best Bhp Filter Its easy to fit and clean and the Green foam can be replace with a number of different colors, which has to help in the looks category. This makes the HKS Super Power Flow our all round Winner |
The overall tests and prices are shown in the following table. Two runs were done per filter and the average take.

Aldon Automotives (www.aldonauto.co.uk) for allowing us to use their Rolling Road ....
... and Finally a Huge Thank you to Stuart Mutch for allowing us to use his car for testing for the day, It would have been nice to break 200bhp, maybe on the next set of tests we do.

해석버전없나요 ^^;;
