As the industry grows, more platforms have been formed that enabled greater access for advertisements. In order to attract more people, advertisements have started to use different strategies. In my opinion, one of the strategies is advertisements becoming more honest with the people than they have 25 years ago.
First, people have been more doubtful about the “perfect” display of advertisements. Over the years, many people have been scammed and cheated with a lot of advertisements. Many products that companies claimed to be perfect, broke within a short frame of time and does not work the way they showed. However, some may say that as much as the platform allowed wider advertisements to enter, there have been a lot of corrupt advertisements greatly existing. Nevertheless, even if there are dishonest advertisements, people find their holes out in a short time and expose the indecency of their advertisements through reviews, comments, rumors, etc. For example, while I was scrolling through Instagram, I saw a video where a man was advertising a face cleaning skincare. After his first use, it wiped all of the blackheads and acne that he had. I was amazed by this great effectiveness but checked the comments because I was suspicious with the effect. The comments were all talking about the fraud of the product and how much a waste of money this product is. This assured me that my doubt was right. Soon, this product stopped selling and was even reported for its fraud. This shows that the more companies are dishonest with their advertisements, they will most likely fail because of people’s doubtfulness and tendency to expose their cheats.
Second, people are more prone to support honest companies. Continuing from my argument that people are doubtful about ‘perfect’ advertisements, they gain more compassion for honest advertisements. Social media users are slowly starting to show their true sides. People are more against posts that seem photoshopped, fake, and unrealistic since it puts an unreachable standardization on people. This naturally allows them to attach to honest and transparent accounts that share their invulnerability to the people. Although there are people that are still attracted to dishonest advertisements, it doesn’t change the fact that there have been more people against it which increased the number of honest advertisements. For instance, this company that many people love is a brand that had shared its progress ever since its beginning. It shared its failings, the process of its manufacturing, and its joy of succeeding. This allowed having a greater connection with its customers and gained a great reputation. In order for a company to give an honest advertisement is for them to produce quality products that won’t have the need for fraud. This is a good culture since companies won’t have to produce scamming products as time goes. This explains how more honest advertisements are profitting and increasing through people’s tendencies to be attracted to honest advertisements.
