[000] Now, the Rest of the Story.
[001] At last, Albert has been honored by American lawmakers.
[002] And why shouldn't he be?
[003] From the beginning, life was an uphill climb for him.
[004] His father was a petty thief and an alcoholic, who
physically abused both him and his mother.
[005] Albert got into trouble himself as a boy.
[006] Then he joined the Army, the 7720th European Command, and
his life changed.
[007] Stationed in Bamburg, Germany, he was awarded the Good
Conduct Medal, and the Army of Occupation Medal and the
National Defense Service Medal.
[008] He excelled as a sharpshooter, even as a boxer.
[009] He became company G middleweight champion boxer.
[010] So, when his superiors predicted that Albert would one
day go home and make a big name for himself,
[011] well, they were right.
[012] But his accomplishments were not widely unappreciated
until a Texas State representative named Thomas Moore Jr.
took up his cause.
[013] Now I'm fairly certain that Mr. Moore did not even know
what you do about Albert.
[014] Nonetheless, in the spring of 1971, ostensibly to honor
him, and, at the same time, hoping to shame fellow
legislators for their ignorance, Moore introduced a
resolution before the Texas State House of
Representatives.
[015] And in it, he wrote of Albert: "Widely esteemed for his
knowledge and unique skill, his outstanding service to
the public has won him recognition as a model of active
citizenship. A champion of worthwhile causes and
acknowledged leader in his singular field, his sincerity,
and diligence and cooperation have earned him the warm
admiration and affection of his fellow practitioners. And
so, on and on and on…," the resolution rambled,
concluding with a stipulation that a copy be sent to
Albert "as a token of the continued good wishes of the
Texas House of Representatives."
[016] And of course, the House unanimously approved it and, and
only then were Texas legislators told precisely what they
had approved.
[017] They might have read the document more carefully.
[018] Assuming they actually read it all, they might have
wondered why Albert's "dedication and devotion to his
work has enabled the weak and the lonely throughout our
nation to achieve and maintain a new degree of concern
for their future," or they might have wondered why
Albert, wrote, "has been officially recognized by the
State of Massachusetts for his noted activities and
unconventional techniques involving population control."
[019] Population control?
[020] That's right.
[021] At least, he confessed to subtracting from the population
of Massachusetts 13 women before being locked away for
the rest of his life because you see the outstanding
service for which the Texas House of Representatives so
vigorously applauded Albert Henry DeSalvo was committed
from 1962 through 1964 under a nickname that sends chills
even still: The Boston Strangler.
[022] The Boston Strangler!
[023] You know they say those fellows that we elect to govern
us seldom read the documents with which they govern us.
[024] Well, that's what Texas Representative Thomas Moore set
out to prove.
[025] And he proved it when he taught us the rest of the story.

[000] 지금, the Rest of the Story.
rest of the story를 가르쳐 준 것입니다.
