Essay for May Prepared by Gatsby
In this 24-7 society which means everything is available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, we have to squeeze out our lives into 24 hours a day. Sometimes, living in this kind of society itself is a stretch even without considering every day chores like cleaning your place, washing dishes and doing laundry. What is worse, the trend of 24-7 is aggravating since IMF crisis. Working hours are getting longer and longer. (So it's not very difficult these days for us to see the jobs whose working hours are more than 70 hours a week!) And, the pace of work is getting faster and so on ...…
Considering the fact above, for working mothers to be effective both at work and home is "almost" impossible. Because both of work and housework are time-consuming and physically demanding jobs. I would say that asking them to be effective in both of them is like asking them to be the best at the 2 different companies at the same time. And, I think asking them to be effective in both of them is based on the concept that "housework is not a value-adding job". And that underestimation on housework stems from the ideology or theory of capitalism society. (Housework is not used for calculating GDP, GNI etc...)
Anyway, in conclusion, don't be fooled because of the superwomen on TV who are very effective at work and home. They are placed at the extreme 0.1% tails of the normal distribution of working moms. The women who happen to be not effective at work and home can be considered natural at a 99.9% confidence interval.

The professor of my life is Prof. Jang, Ha-sung. I took all of his classes (maybe) when I was in college. I think some of you might heard of him already. He is one of the most famous researcher in corporate governance and became famous to public by leading "Minority Shareholdr's Campaign(소액주주운동). Now he is the chief advisor of Korea Corporate Governance Fund(KCGF, 장하성펀드). He became my role model since he have showed me how to integrate your expertise and public good. And he also showed me how to fight against the Goliath. He has always been fighting with his own creativity and knowledge, not with a propaganda. Well, now I get to have a different views on him - he was criticized by media about his views on Sovereign Global Investment's activities when it had troubles with SK corporation and his activities of KCGF - but he is still my role model. And he will be.
P.S : For this essay, I had shot for making a list of my teachers from 1st grade to 12th grade. I couldn’t remember one name and for 2 teachers I could only remember the nickname of them. (One is Samurai because he had samurai-like head and the other is “sea of blood (피바다)” because he was notorious for physical punishment) And there were a lot of nice teachers who were not in charge of my class. I am wondering how many you can fill in and how many you can not. When you have time, give it a try. I think it's worth it^^
