Dialogue
Brian: So, I heard your partners are flying in from China for
a visit.
Lian: They are! They’re flying in to LA the day after
tomorrow.
Brian: Really? I thought your vacation starts next week on
Tuesday.
Lian: It does. Mr. Prescott wants me to give a budge update
to Corporate staff on Monday.
Brian: What about your parents? This is their first time to
America, isn’t it?
Lian: They’ll be OK. I’ve put them up in the hotel near the
airport, and signed them up for a tour.
Brian: Won’t they feel a bit lost though, it being their
first time here and all?
Lian: The hotel caters to Chinese tourists, so the cultural
shock shoudn’t be that bad. And the tour guide speaks Chinese, as well. They’ll
be well taken care of.
Brian:
Brian:
Lian:

US travel industry caters to Chinese
tourist
For some of these tourists,
breakfast at this Los Angeles hotel is their first meal in the United States.
Many of them are surprised by what the kitchen has to offer: fried rice,
dumplings, and other Chinese foods are on the menu. It is a welcome surprise for
Zhou Yian, a tour guide. “I feel touched. Just feeling like there isn’t much
difference from home.” She says breakfast is not the only surprise. There are
also several channels of Chinese television in her room. These offerings are a
part of Hilton Hotels’ new effort to attract travelers from China. Close to 50
Hiltons around the world are a part of a program called Hilton Huanying,
meaning “welcome” in Chinese. The hotels also offer slippers, Chinese tea and
tea kettles in the rooms, a letter in Chinese and Chinese-speaking staff.
