No feeling is more subjective
than that of happiness.
Julius Caesar was the absolute ruler in actuality
but he felt unhappy about not having been
formally honored with a throne.
Napoleon brought the whole Europe to her knees,
but he felt unbearably unhappy, for Great Briton,
the only island country, disobeyed him.
However, the two heroes met their tragic end
because of their high-end view of happiness.
On the other hand,
Diogenes, Greek philosopher, lived happily
all through his life, becasue he felt happy
just with sunlight he shared with all creation.
We seek opportunity, prepare ourselves for it
and try to make fortune when we take it; however,
just in case we fail to either seize opportunity or
make fortune, why don't we train ourselves to find
happiness even in a ray of light, a bunch of flower,
song of birds or sound of water?
If we do so, we'll feel happy as long as we live
until the closing bell rings, then we may regret
even a bit less about our life.
For happiness is the due right of all people
born in this world that they are entitled to
regardless of the kind of luck they meet.

The giant hackberry behind my home-village,
allegedly a millenium old, so huge that six adults
should stretch and connect their arms to enfold it.
On summer days,
it made a cool shade far and wide,
under which old men over 60 years old
played chess on a low wooden bench,
enjoying a cool wind
after they sent their youths to the field.
Mother and Father worked flat out all day long
in the scorching summer sun, but the old man
just played chess doing nothing else like hermits;
sometimes I hated and sometimes I envied them.
I visit my old homevillage after a long interval;
the millenium old hackberry still stands tall
like a spry youth, spreading its branches
full of green foliage in every direction;
however, the old men are now all gone,
who I thought would be playing chess forever
on the wooden bench under the cool shade.
Now I, an oldie over 60 years old myself,
sit alone under the hackberry shade,
thinking of futility of life over a cup of wine.
Mom, to whom 5 patches of rain-fed rice paddy
was all she had, would worry rain or shine.
When there was no rain,
she broke her back fetching water from a reservoir.
When there was much rain,
she broke her back draining water from her paddy
and erecting the fallen rice plants.
At harvest she broke her back reaping rice with her scythe.
After harvest she broke her back gleaning grains on the field.
She broke her back feeding her 9 children day and night.
One day Mom, who'd hadn't a single day to rest her back
doing this or that all through her life, lied in bed with a back pain
and passed away without saying a word to any of her 9 children,
perhaps yearning the place she needn' t break her back any more.
Do not feel dizzy
because time passes too quickly.
Do not feel bored
because time passes too slowly.
Our fist-sized heart toils to pump blood
into our gradually-narrowing blood vessel
of several thousand kilometers to secure
just one moment we spend carelessly.
If we waste moments our heart toils to create,
we lose qualification for dreaming eternal life.
As moments add up to eternity,
valuable moments add up to eternal life.
My baby, whenever you cry at top of your voice
asking for food feeling hungry, I rearm myself
with hungry spirit I have forgotten for long.
My baby, whenever you make me feel happy
with your bright smile and cute tricks of all kinds,
I learn how to hang with others and make friends with them.
My baby, whenever you shout for joy
toddling around everywhere,
I learn how to find joy in my daily life
and enjoy it to the full.
My baby, whenever you sleep in my arms
with your beating heart pressing on mine,
I feel the irresistable Hand of Providence.
My baby, you are such a noble being
who always teaches me new things.
However severe my past ordeal might have been
and though no less ordeal might pester me now,
it'd be just a trifle compared with the joy of
breathing alive at this moment.
Whatever new ordeal I might face in the future,
joy of breathing alive then would overcome it.
In the morning, the radiant rising sun,
fresh air and joy of breathing alive bless my day.
12. Be yourself
Be yourself no matter what. You can be happy only when your are
youself. You cannot be happy trying to be someone else or pretending
to be someone else.
Come out of your inner world and project your real self onto the world,
Open your eyes to your true personality, your natural disposition, your
craving, and what you can do best.
You are the only person on earth that is you and will be you forever.
The person exactly like you has never been born and will never be born again.
Your weight equals the weight of the entire universe because, the moment
you fall asleep, the entire universe disappears from your consciousness.
Value your every breathing moment and use it the way you need not regret
for the rest of your life. By doing so, you can fulfil the purpose of your life.
Don't envy a stork because you are a crow-tit. Every humanbeing on earth
has his or her purpose of life and you are no exception.
Challenge the world and knock on the door until it opens.
And you won't regret your life on your deathbed.
