In the U. S., Thanksgiving Day is the second-biggest holiday next to Christmas. People send thank-you cards to each other, and families have a lot of food on their tables.
In order to enjoy the 4 days of the Thanksgiving holiday, from the last Thursday in November until the next Sunday, Americans go back to their hometowns, just like we do during the Chuseok holiday. Separated family members get together and the sons and daughters studying in universities far away also come back home.
Thanksgiving Day originates from the time the Europeans first arrived on the New Continent. They wanted to celebrate their successful settlement in this new world and to thank the Native American Indians who had helped them.
As was done in the past, Americans today celebrate this dy with roasted turkey, corn bread, sweet potatoes, and pumkin pie. These foods are what their ancestors enjoyed. All these foods on the Thanksgiving Day table are supposed to be hot and abundant in amount.
