On my way home from a hospital.....

I am now at Haksang library. About 2 hours ago, my english teacher made a phone

call to me, waking me up actually.
(전 지금 학생 도서관에 있습니다. 2시간 전에 영어 선생님이 전화를 걸어서 일어 났죠.)

My mom told me rubbing eyes to be out of sleep about an old man living next to my

house.(he is in his dotage) In fact, I was not interested in who he is; however, a little bit

surprised by the story.
(엄마는 잘 깰려고 눈 비비는 저에게 옆집에 사시는 한 할아버지 얘기를 했습니다. 노망난 할아버지 였죠. 사실 그다지 관심도 없었지만 듣고나니 조금 놀랍더라구요.)

He always stays in his room and makes a rough cough from time to time.
(그 할아버지는 항상 집에서만 있는것 같고, 때때로 심한 기침도 하더라구요.)

The reason why I assumed he is a dotard is that he sometimes shouts out loudly until

his wife comes back to the house from outside.(anyway he is in dotage)
(노망났다고 생각하는 이유는요 때때로 배우자인 할머니가 집에 없으면 올때까지 소리지른다는 겁니다. 하여튼 노망난 할아버지에요.)

I just guessed his past job one time about a month ago, while suffering from the nosiy

sound he was making. I muttered to myself like this "What did he do for a liveing?

maybe .... a hard worker or long-term unemployee caused by a waist wound"
(하루는 그 지겨운 소리를 듣다가 과연 저 할아버지의 직업은 뭐였을까 생각하면서 스스로 이렇게 말했죠.."직업을 뭘까? 아마도 막노동 꾼이나 허리 부상으로 오랫동안 실업자였을 꺼야"하고 말이죠.)

But his occupation was beyond my expectation. "high school teacher" Although he

retired a long time ago, I couldn't find any image as teacher from his current behavior

and undignified voice.
(그러나 그의 직업은 생각과는 다르더라구요. 고등학교 선생님 이셨담니다. 비록 오래전에 은퇴하셨더라도 전 그의 행동과 품위없이 들리는 목소리로는 도저히 선생님의 모습을 머리속에 그릴수 없었습니다.)

In fact, my father was also a primary teacher and now just a retiree spending most of

his time being in his room, making me feel gloomy.
(사실 제 아버지도 초등하교 선생님 이셨고 지금은 은퇴하신 후 줄곧 집에만 계십니다. 그래서 때로는 그런 아버지를 보며 무기력 할 때가 있죠.)

Yesterday, the father of one of my classmates passed away, so I went to a hospital as

condoler with other classmates.
(어제는 한 급우의 아버지가 돌아가셔서 다른 학생들과 같이 병원으로 조문하러 갔습니다. )

When I saw the classmate looking gaunt, I heard some word from the classmate "I

don't still believe what happened to me!"
(그 급우를 봤을 때 매우 수척해 보이더라구요. 그리고 이런말을 했습니다. "아직까지 이 모든게 믿어지지 않아요!")

Anybody knows human beings are destined to die, yet only few believe it. Actually, I

admit my parents can't be around permanently, but I don't want to believe it too.
(그렇습니다. 그 어떤 사람도 인간은 죽게 되어있다는것을 알면서도 실제도 그걸 믿는사람은 거의 없습니다. 사실 제 자신도 제 부모님이 계속 함께 할 수 없다는것을 알면서도, 믿으려고는 하질 않습니다.)

So far, I have never imagined my mom and dad are not around in the world despite of

the fact that my mom told me a lot like this "I am not far away! ".
("나도 이젠 얼마 남지 않았어!"이렇게 수없이 어머니께서 말씀하셨어도 전 지금까지 단 한번도 부모님없는 세상을 생각해 본적이 없었습니다.)

Whenever I heard the old man's wheezing voice, I thought it would be better for him to

pass away in order for his wife to get free from attending him and he might be also likely

to wish to die in his mind.
(그 할아버지의 가르릉거리는 목소리를 들을때마다, 그를 시중드는 할머니를 위해서라도 돌아가시는편이 낳겠다. 그리고 할아버지도 그걸 원하실거라고 생각했습니다.)

But I was wrong... and wrong..... I have forgot one thing that it is probable that he

doesn't want to believe in death too.
(그러나 제가 틀렸다는것을 알았습니다. 한가지 사실을 잊고 있었습니다. 그도 역시 죽음을 믿고 싶지 않을줄 도 모른다는 것을 말입니다. )
