Cry out full-throated and unsparingly, lift up your voice like a trumpet blast; Tell my people their wickedness, and
the house of Jacob their sins.
Grida a squarciagola, non aver riguardo;
come una tromba alza la voce;
dichiara al mio popolo i suoi delitti,
Clama fortiter, ne cesses;
quasi tuba exalta vocem tuam
et annuntia populo meo scelera eorum
et domui Iacob peccata eorum.
They seek me day after day, and desire to know my ways, Like a nation that has done what is just and not
abandoned the law of their God; They ask me to declare what is due them, pleased to gain access to God.
Mi ricercano ogni giorno,
bramano di conoscere le mie vie,
come un popolo che pratichi la giustizia
e non abbia abbandonato il diritto del suo Dio;
mi chiedono giudizi giusti,
bramano la vicinanza di Dio:
Ils viennent me consulter jour après jour, ils veulent connaître mes chemins.
Me etenim de die in diem quaerunt et scire vias meas volunt,
quasi gens, quae iustitiam fecerit
et iudicium Dei sui non dereliquerit.
Rogant me iudicia iustitiae,
appropinquare Deum volunt.
"Why do we fast, and you do not see it? afflict ourselves, and you take no note of it?" Lo, on your fast day you
carry out your own pursuits, and drive all your laborers.
angariate tutti i vostri operai.
Yes, your fast ends in quarreling and fighting, striking with wicked claw. Would that today you might fast so as to
make your voice heard on high!
Nolite ieiunare sicut hodie,
ut audiatur in excelso clamor vester.
Is this the manner of fasting I wish, of keeping a day of penance: That a man bow his head like a reed, and lie in
sackcloth and ashes? Do you call this a fast, a day acceptable to the LORD?
dies, quo homo affligit animam suam?
Numquid contorquere quasi iuncum caput suum
et saccum et cinerem sternere?
Numquid istud vocabis ieiunium
et diem acceptabilem Domino?
This, rather, is the fasting that I wish: releasing those bound unjustly, untying the thongs of the yoke; Setting free
the oppressed, breaking every yoke;
Sharing your bread with the hungry, sheltering the oppressed and the homeless; Clothing the naked when you
see them, and not turning your back on your own.
nell'introdurre in casa i miseri, senza tetto,
Nonne frangere esurienti panem tuum,
et egenos, vagos inducere in domum?
Cum videris nudum, operi eum
et carnem tuam ne despexeris.
Then your light shall break forth like the dawn, and your wound shall quickly be healed; Your vindication shall go
before you, and the glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard.
Allora la tua luce sorgerà come l'aurora,
Tunc erumpet quasi aurora lumen tuum,
et sanatio tua citius orietur;
et anteibit faciem tuam iustitia tua,
et gloria Domini colliget te.
Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer, you shall cry for help, and he will say: Here I am! If you remove
from your midst oppression, false accusation and malicious speech;
Allora lo invocherai e il Signore ti risponderà;
Tunc invocabis, et Dominus exaudiet;
clamabis, et dicet: “ Ecce adsum ”.
Si abstuleris de medio tui iugum
et desieris extendere digitum
et loqui iniquitatem;
Then the disciples of John approached him and said, "Why do we and the Pharisees fast (much), but your
disciples do not fast?"
Jesus answered them, "Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will
come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.

R. A heart contrite and humbled, O God, you will not spurn.
Have mercy on me, O God, in your goodness;
in the greatness of your compassion wipe out my offense.
Thoroughly wash me from my guilt
and of my sin cleanse me. R.
For I acknowledge my offense,
and my sin is before me always:
“Against you only have I sinned,
and done what is evil in your sight.” R.
For you are not pleased with sacrifices;
should I offer a burnt offering, you would not accept it.
My sacrifice, O God, is a contrite spirit;
a heart contrite and humbled, O God, you will not spurn. R.
Pietà di me, o Dio, nel tuo amore;
nella tua grande misericordia
cancella la mia iniquità.
Lavami tutto dalla mia colpa,
dal mio peccato rendimi puro. R.
Tu non gradisci il sacrificio;
se offro olocàusti, tu non li accetti.
Uno spirito contrito è sacrificio a Dio;
Le sacrifice qui plaît à Dieu, c’est un esprit brisé ;
