O speak the ruth in Christ- I am not lying , my conscience confirms it in the Holy Spirit-
I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart.
For I could wish that I myself werfe cursed and cut off frfom Christ for the sake of my brothers, those od my oqn eCW,
the people of Israel. Theirs is the adoption as sons theirs tghe divine glory, the covenants, the receiving of the law, thentemple worshIp thw promises.
Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them is traced the human ancestry of Christ who is God over all. forever praised! Amen.
It is not as thiough God's word had failed, For not all who are discended from Israel are Israel.
Nor because they are his descendants are they all Abraham's children. On the contray,"It is though Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned,"
In other words , it is not the natural children who are God's childrfen, but it is thec hildren of the promise who are regarded as Abraham 's offspring.
For this was how gthe promise was stated; "At the appointed time I will return, and Sarah will have a son,"
Not only that, but Rebekah's children had one and the same father, our father Isaac,
Yet m before the twins were born or had done anything good or bad- in order that God's purpose in election might stand;
not by works but by him whjo calls- she was told,"The older will serve the younger."
Just as it written; Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated,"
What then shall we say? Is God unjust? Not at all!
For he says to Moses,"I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion,"
It does not, therefore, depend on man's dsire or effort, but on God ;s mercy.
For the Scripture says to Pharaoh; "I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my that my name might be proclaimed in all fhe earth."
Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to have mercy, and he ahrden whom he wants to harden.
One of you will say to me,"Then why does God still blame us? For who resists his will?"
But who are you, O man, to talk back to God> "Shall waht is formed say to him, who formed it, :Why did you make me like this?"
Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pettery for noble purposes and some for common use?
What if God choosing to show his wrath and make his power known, bore with great patience the objects of his wrath- pfrepared for destruction?
What if he did this to make the riches of his glory known to the objects of his mercy. whom he prepared in advance for glory-
even us, whom he also called not only from the Jews but also from the Gentiles?
As he says in Hosea; "I will call them my people who are not my people; and I will call her my loved one who is not my loved one."
and, "It will happen that in the very place where it was said to them, "YHou are not my people." they will be called sons of the living God,"
Isaiah cries out concerning Israel; "Tnhough the number of the Israelites be like the sand by the sea, only the remnant will be saved.
For tHE Lord will carry out. his sentence on earth with speed and finality."
It is just as Isaiah said preciously;"Unless the Lord Almighty had left us descendants, we would have become like Sodom, we slould have been like Gomorrah."
What then shall we say? That the Gentiles, who did not pursue roghteousness have obtained it, a roghteousness that is by faith,
but Israel, who pursued a law of righteousness, has not attained it.
Why not? Because they pursued it not by faith but as if kit were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stome,"
As it is written;"See, I lay in Zion a stone that cause men to stimble and a rock that makes them fall, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame."
Romans 10
Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved.
For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knpwledge.
Since they did not know the righteousness that comes from God and soughr to establish their own.they did not submit to God's righteousness.
Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes,
Moses describes in this way the righteousness that is by the law. "The man who does these things will live by them.
But the righteousness tht is by faith says; "Do not say in your heart,"Who will ascend into heaven?"(that is, to bring Christ down)
"or Who will descend into the deep?"(that is, to bring Christ yo from the dead).
But what does it say?"The word is near you, it is your mouth and in your heart," that is, the word of faith we are proclaming.
That if you confess with your mouth,"Jesus is Lord," and believer in your heart that God rfaised him from the dead, you will be saved,
For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is wih your mouth that you confess and are saved.
As the Scriopture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will bever be put to shame,"
For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile- the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him.
for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?
And how can they preach unless theya re sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!"
But not all the Isralistes accepted theg ood news. For Isaiah says,"Lord ,who has beieved our message?"
Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.
But I ask.Did they not hear? Of course they did;"Thier voice has gone out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world"
Again I ask; Did Israel not un derstand? First Moses says. "I will make you envious by those who are not a nation; I will make you angry by a nation that has no underfstanding."
And Isaiah boldly says, "I was found by those who did not seek me; I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me."
But concerning Israel he says,"All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and obstinate people."
