[000] Now, the Rest of the Story.
[001] The ambassador maintained a calm facade, but inside he
was seething.
[002] For years, he had struggled to protect his daughter,
wealthy, and pretty and prestigious, to protect her from
ill-suited suitors, and along comes this ... this actor
fellow named Earnest who had charmed her and somehow
talked her into marrying him.
[003] The ambassador had met the fellow years before he had
taken up acting.
[004] Earnest had been a shopping center parking lot attendant.
[005] The ambassador would actually tip the boy a quarter at
any times.
[006] And then the December passed, his daughter had brought
Earnest home to meet her family.
[007] "Couldn't be serious," the old man had told himself.
[008] And then in walks Earnest the day previous, smiling,
charming as ever.
[009] He says, "I'd like to ask for your daughter's hand in
marriage."
[010] Well, the ambassador slyly offered his tentative
permission, requesting that the couple keep their
engagement a secret for a month or two.
[011] And how would the old man spend those weeks?
[012] Researching, investigating, generating a dossier on the
man well-positioned to break his daughter's heart.
[013] First, the ambassador called Earnest's employer, MGM
Studio head Louis Mayor.
[014] "Were there any rumors worth overhearing?" he asked.
[015] Mayor said, "Yes,” there had been rumors of this and
that, but Earnest had refuted them and Mayor had believed
him.
[016] But the ambassador remained unconvinced.
[017] Now, he called the FBI, his old friend, the Bureau's
director, J. Edgar Hoover.
[018] He said, I want to know everything there is to know about
this fellow who's stealing my daughter.
[019] It took Director Hoover a mere 24 hours to produce
Earnest's life story thus far.
[020] Four aliases, a list of addresses and occupations
including his days as a car jockey, and then, then the
story got ripe.
[021] Earnest, that appeared as early as 1947, had been
informing on suspected communism in Hollywood.
[022] He had alerted the FBI--even as the FBI had been spying
on Earnest, meticulously noting his weakness for
prostitutes.
[023] "Prostitutes!!" the ambassador exclaimed.
[024] That was correct.
[025] A number of them, the report stated, and a favorite call
girl here and there.
[026] And the ambassador, the ambassador laughed, he laughed!
"What a relief!" he confessed.
[027] Earnest was a hater of the commies as was the old man and
what most would call a womanizer as was the old man.
“With so many odd types in Hollywood,“ said the
ambassador, “one could never tell.”
[028] And so the evidently happy couple was given the
enthusiastic blessing of the girl's father, and there was
a wedding, and there was rejoicing all around.
[029] Because once upon an intriguing approval, there was an
actor named--among other things--Peter Ernest Sidney
Lawford, the Peter Lawford, who was fortunate to have
been a Red-hating, hooker-loving son of a gun, and did so
please his prospective father-in-law with those
qualifications, the former ambassador to Great Britain,
the father of a future president of the United States.
[030] Of course, you remember the mega-wealthy patriarch with
an appreciation for misbehavior as Joseph P. Kennedy.
[031] Only now you know the rest of the story.

[000] 이제, the Rest of the Story입니다.
[031] 단지 이제야 당신은 the rest of the story를 알고 계십니다.
